Thanks! How bout a Browning A bolt 25-06? I figure its got plenty of ass to it but my wife can use it too if she ever gets into this. Also I have 3 kids when they are teens it would be good size for them. I went out to my buddies (fishing partner) farm yesterday and saw tons of turkey and 6 or 7 deer but they were all females so didnt take a shot at them. 3 of them were in a group and walked about 75 feet from us, they were in bow range! This was the first time I went hunting, it was totally badass! Since Saturday they have gotten a 7,8 and 9 point out on the farm so I know mine will come soon! You have ignored this user.

Hello Fish, Browning produces some mighty-fine rifles. I'm not much of a fan of thier line of "BOSS" system they introduced in the 90's painfully loud in the field which leeds to flinch. ~ poor marksmanship. The Quarter bore is truly an unbelievably long range lethal flat shooter. As long as the rifle "fits" your wifes (kids) length of pull they should enjoy shooting it. Recoil is minimal. My favorite 25-06 handload is with the Nosler 115 grain partition bullet. I've made many one shot drops beyond .300 yards. Anticipation must be killing you LOL, with that many nice deer coming off of that farm.. again find him and kill him! best of Luck ST~ You have ignored this user.

Hi Fish, In no certain order these are my perfered bolt action manufacturers. Remington, Winchester,and Savage, I have to admit though I've been in a Savageaholic mode for the past several years LOL. For dollar value and out of the box champagne accuracy on a beer budget, Savage hands down. Remington 700 has always been a top brand with plenty of aftermarket accessories to fit its action. Many "sniper" systems are built around its action. The model 70 Winchester has a special place with me. Two calibers that "I" think every hunter should have are the 25-06 and the .300 Win Mag. These two calibers will allow you to drop any animal North America offers. Plus they are easily hand-loaded to fit your needs. Some other popular calibers are the 22-250 (my choice for varmint vaporizing) The .243 The .270 The 30-06 Cant forget to mention the .22 long rilfe a must have to learn to shoot with,hunt with, and to plink with. Always attempt to buy the best optics you can afford for your rifles, top end is the way to go. Your optics can make or break a hunt all on thier own,plus they can easily cost twice as much as the rifle they are perched upon! However for functionality and affordability the Simmons A-tec series fits that niche nicely IMHO. Spend as much trigger time as you can with your rifle/s not just benched either, off hand, prone, seated shoot shoot and shoot some more. Remember this if you can consistently place "a bullet" into a paper plate target (size of boiler room kill zone) out to .300 yards you will put meat in the freezer. As you hone your shooting skills your bullet placement will also improve. Save your brass and learn to hand load. You can truly go dog nutz within the shooting sports LOL. CH, Itll get better, bro! Tournament season is over down here in FL and I am just enjoying not having to work every weekend. I forgot what it was like to just relax and have fun on the weekends. We ended up doing 20 tournaments this year from Feb to Mid Oct so this is a nice change for me. ST, Really appreciate your advice. A lot of people in this area like Browning A bolts but I would prefer to buy American if possible (i read Brownings are made in Japan). Right now I'm leaning towards a Win Mod 70 ultimate shadow stainless 25 wssm. I found one BNIB on guns America for $505. That seems to be a great deal! From what Ive read the 25 wssm has identical ballistics to the 25-06 but has the kick of a 243. That would make it ideal for my kids and wife to use, Im thinking. So then Ill keep my 30-06, get the 25wssm and my father has a golden eagle 300 mag I could always use of if I go to Montana or something. That would pretty much cover everything ya think? Hi Fish, Comparatively the .25-06 and the .243 are pretty much the same in recoil up to the 100 grainers and actually the down range ballistics between the two the .243 is supierior. As if the intended target really cared lol. On everyone of my rifles I've installed Pachmayer Decelorater recoil pads from my .223 to my .338 Win Mag. The more you control felt recoil the more you eliminate trigger flinch. I suggest you do the same they run about 30 bucks. Not only does bullet weight on top of a heavy powder charge equal recoil but the overall weight of rifle greatly determines amount of felt recoil. Lighter rifles = more felt recoil. Remington Youth model and thier model 7's are very light in weight and are designed for the women and youth shooter. 22-250,243,7-08 I believe are still offered. Today the MIghty Midgets (short mags) are the BUZZ. I don't own one, nor have the desire to do so (yet,) that 25 sounds sweet lol. Not that I feel thier is anything wrong with any of them other than if the popularity wains (as with the 5mm Remington) then manufactuer offerings of cartridges and components ultimately could not be available? A couple more things to consider. What ever rifle you let your wife have and each of your kids, make sure the scope is mounted to thier eye relief. When learning to shoot a properly mounted scope is a must, plus you dont want them to get punched in the orbital with the scope they will bleed and carry a scar. When they first start to shoot have them seated, benched and with eye and good hearing protection in place. You definately have a doable plan. Check Wally-World for its special order price on that 25 WSSM might be able to shave a few more dollars off of that $505.00 plus you will not have to arrange for guns of America to ship it to a FFL dealer for you pick up from. (that is if guns is a webb seller and not a brick and mortar store?) Peace ST~ You have ignored this user.

I can use it as a muzzleloader, high power rifle, and pistol with ease of changing the configuration. Never heard of one that didn't shoot well either. For scopes I prefer Leupold.
