Any body think that Roma has a chance against Manchester? I would love to knock out Manchester. Unfortunately, I think that is going to be real tough for Roma. I am hoping that Cristiano Ronoldo comes down with a nasty stomach virus. |

Don't know all the details of what happened, but I can see why the Italian police could over react after what happened in Catania. Also, the English haven't always been the kindest visitors in Italy. They have caused many problems and the police were probably scared of the English running rampant all over Rome. |

Italian policing doesn't seem to work though. I'll bet there's little or no incident at Old Trafford, or in Manchester, for the return leg; and that'll probably be without any police presence in the football ground - just stewards. |

I doubt the Man U fans were as innocent as they claim but the Italian Police, as usual went way over the top. I am not law enforcement or crowd control expert but I fail to see how batting someone who is lying on the floor is a worthwhile tactic. |

Mozzer, Govnor and Mick are all correct - I've been to European games here and abroad and it's amazing the difference if the way the police handle things here to those in Europe - and I've never seen any trouble at a European game in this country.... |

I am not going to defend the Italian police, but don't try and take all blame away from the English and the Manchester United fans. The English have caused problems in countries all over Europe, but somehow it is never their fault. And just if there is no problems in the return leg, it does not mean that the Manchester police are better. It could be b/c the travelling Roma fans behave better. |

JFU - I don't think anyone is saying the Man U fans were blameless here. I'm sure the Roma fans are though. But it is amazing how the scenes of Police with batons hammering guys while they're stuck on the ground seems to be somewhat of a common place in Italian football. Why is that? |

Because they are overmatched and do not know how to deal with those situations. I am not defending the police or the Roma fans. |

DJStudd - Your mates and the rest of the English went to a foreign country and acted like assholes (wouldn't be the first time), and got beat down for it. The police probably went to far, but they probably wanted to stop the English before they trashed the city. I feel bad if there truly weren't any innocent victims, but at this point they should know better than to travel with the team. English fans seem to attract trouble, and any normal fan that just wants to watch the game suffers. Weren't Manchester fans held responsible for what happened in Lille? |

Sav - no one is saying that the Moan U fans were Saints. But what is the context of that picture? Is the guy just randomly throwing the chair? Or is his mate getting beaten to a bloody mess and he is reacting? |

"The police probably went to far, but they probably wanted to stop the English before they trashed the city." lol @ 6000 untied fans trashing Rome!! how were they gonna trash it from in the stadium?! its bullshit, itallian teams should be docked for the way the authorities act in their stadiums, its always the fucking same. where were the police on the roma fan side?! it was all 50/50 and the united fans were the only ones who suffered. |

im incontrollably angry, almost got kicked out of the pub the other night for shouting at 3 non united fans who found it hilarious to cheer on roma. its idiots like that that make it easier for the hooligans to opperate. why is there so much hate and violence in football? next time u go to the game, talk to some of the opposing fans and give them a hug. football is goverened by two flags and a whistle, not bats and tear gas. greasy third world pizza eating cum snorters |

it most countries on the continent that dont like us brits. and even tho all the violence is 50/50, im not saying we do nothing, british fans are the only ones that get billy clubbed. its fucking disgusting, if your gonna make excuses to crack skulls, it should be even on both sides. third world cos they havent got a clue how to police or how to act. the fact that you called us "bloody fithly crooked teethed pigs", shows how bad we brits have it from people round the world. |
