I have mainly trained no-gi but I am going to switch to gi only and would love any advice from gi's to training, etc... I am primarily interested in sport not the transfer of skills to MMA/street. Thanks, Shane |

Wash your gi after each class and keep it clean. No one likes a smelly bastard. :) |

spc36, My 2 cents. Gi and no-gi are the same, don't get caried away with trying to wrap the skirt arond guys arms and other stuff I see people do to amuse themselves. Buy a couple cheap gi's so you always have a clean one handy. Lastly, enjoy that your sweaty training partner is now sweating on his gi and not on you. |

Thanks cincibill, sounds good. One of the main reasons that I want to do gi is because it seems to go at a slower more methodical pace and with some of my injuries that is helpful. Shane |

Whether you wear a gi or not has nothing to do with going at a slower methodical pace. That's has more to do with your training atmosphere, mentality, and partners. I train gi all the time and there are plenty of people who go buck wild when they roll. When it comes to frequency of injuries, there are several factors. 1. Your ego. 2. Your training partners. 3. Your body's level of function. 4. Your understanding of when to exert force and when not to. 5. Your instructor and how he structures and conducts the class. |

Good post Bolo. I am finding that I am able to control the game and slow it down a litte bit more than nogi. Thanks, Shane |
