TKD is one of those things. There are solid concepts behind the glitz. It's just that most schools are more glitz than hard core tech. |

Some of those kicks were entertaining, and some were rediculous. I think the thing with TMAs, is the person doing it. If you know how to fight prior to taking them, chances are they'll improve your fighting ability. If you had no clue before training, then you'll still have no clue afterwards. I took TKD when I was a teen, and my one instructor was a legit bad ass. The other instructor?? He was a joke. |

How is their takedown defense???? I didn't have the sound on, but it looked like some good 'KI-YAHHH's'. I digress. I don't want to judge, if that is what they like to do, more power to 'em. They could be sitting on in front of a computer laughing at others expense. Wait, that sounds familiar..... |

I am going to hell as I though that there would actually be a video of the special oympic TKD team. But this video was even worse than I expected. |

Man everytime I come here I feel bad I was in TKD from 1979-2001 but that is a lot of WTF shit though, a lot of flash and not much power. It was different years ago. I hate those bitch-ass turning kicks they do. They have no hands. Also trying that will get you eaten up with leg kicks. |

I really don't get the "running kick". It has lots of flare and amazing to watch someone do it, but I see no power behind it. Some nice looking combos. I met Francisco Filho the Brazilian Kyokushin team. The NY dojo hosted the All-American Championship and there a party in the dojo after the tournament. Group of great guys. Filho is soft spoken but has firmness in the tone. No ego at all. The head of this branch of Kyokushin, Matsui, has a beautiful wife. Sorry no pics. |

that first vid is TKD. TKD has nothing to do with kyokushin except for slightly similar uniforms. I am not dissing TKD. It is a fine sport in its own right, but when people watch a tkd clip and then talk about how it cant be all bad if it produced karate fighters like andy hug (kyokushin fighter)and GSP (kyokushin background) and Machida (shotokan), I have to wonder if they also think shaolin kungfu cant be all bad in the ring since it has produced fighters like Buakaw PorParmuk. TKD and karate are two different arts from two different countries, used in very different sport settings. This goes double for knockdown karate styles like kyokushin/seidokaikan/enshin etc. |

^^ Some Kyuk too ki fights. Not sure I would call it "basically Muay thai". I see no elbows or knees, but its interesting nevertheless. TKD in a kickboxing environment -sort of. Ofcourse, I have no clue if this particular event was full Kyuk too ki rules, or a limited rule amateur event. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cGiegpzGAu0 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hUV-DeX9mbY |

How is Buakaw a Shaolin kungfu fighter? And TKD has nothing to do with kyokushin or shotokan. It's a relatively recent art (not formalized until the 1940's or so) and is as far for Kyokushin as it is from western boxing. |
