I wouldn't buy one because I don't think they are very reliable after 4 or 5 years and we can't even get them serviced here on my island. Still I wish Toyota would ship those small diesel cars here to the US. I'm sure they get the same MPG. I'd prefer a diesel to a hybrid. On a side note I've seen pictre of the new Prius and it looks like a Pacer. WTF is Toyota thinking? |

I would buy the Diesel Yaris, even if it cost 2K more. I would rather have a diesel Xb. |

Diesel is a more concentrated (read less refined) oil product, it creates more energy per gallon than petrol, also creating more CO2, CO etc |

I always thought diesels emitted less Co2 but more No2s and other bad chemicals. The new diesel is supposed to be way cleaner. |

get urself a diesel golf/jetta and don't look back. i get around 1000km per tank and it costs me 40 to fill the tank. |

2009 Honda Accord diesel and the argument about diesel being dirtier is just ignorant. ok let's say the emissions are 30% dirtier well if you get 30% or better fuel economy youre putting the same or less into the environment |

Yeah, in Europe the Dodge Caliber Diesel is said to be very reliable. You cannot get them in the US at all which blows. |

That Honda diesel in currently available in the European Accord which is smaller than the US Accord. But is what the US market Acura TSX is based on. I'd buy that in a heartbeat. |

We can get either 5 or 10% biodiesel in my town now, which is awesome, but I don't want the typical VW reliability issues. |

I like Honda's mentality. They could bring a diesel car here today but they are trying to get it to work reliable and without a costly Urea tank. What's the sense in having a 60 MPG car if you need more servicing and you have to fill up with expensive urea every 40K. |

I've heard reliability on these is shitty. You have heard incorrectly, based on my experience. My wife owns a '02 diesel Jetta. The engine is rock-solid and has had no serious problems as of 100K miles. The local dealership routine calls us up and asks to buy it from us because they can't get new ones fast enough and the old ones don't get traded in. I own a '06 Mini Cooper and I wish they'd had a diesel option when I bought. I'm a little disappointed in the 28mpg I'm getting now, especially because I have to use premium gas. |

The tdi's are actually very reliable. I've seen some in the auction with over 600,000km on them. The only problematic ones are the automatics as the transmission can't cope with the torque delivered from the diesel engine. I've also read about o2 sensors going on them but I haven't had any problems yet. Great cars and I get around 54mpg on the highway if I go 100-110km/hr with the cruise control on. The thing that gets me is the city driving and how efficient it is in the city. |

the tdi has a problem with the injector pump around a grand just in parts expect to replace one in the cars lifetime and they had the same mk4 problems window regs, brake switches ,ect otherwise my favorite vw |
