What's this philosophic aversion to joining her book club. Do you think the master would be this petty |

My aversion is that I don't want my inbox flooded with her Picks and offers and moisturizing cream spam.

Try a spam filter or a fake address. I use gmail which handles that nonsense, btw. But the only emails I get from her anyway are wrt her book club. |

Finally finished BLOOD MERIDIAN. I'll probably read THE ROAD next, but I'm going to take a short McCarthy break. Question: Does anyone think NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN is worth reading. Thus far I've heard no. |

Cormac McCarthy's shopping list is worth reading. But the book was great and the upcoming movie looks great too. |

The clips for the movie look great. Also, Viggo Mortensen was cast as the father for the upcoming movie of The Road. Sick pick, I could also see Viggo playing Lee Murray too if they ever make a story about his life. |

Tommy Lee Jones is gold though in the clips I've seen. And it did get great reviews. But then again I'm an obvious nuthugger wrt Cormac, the Cre to his Franklin. |

NCFOM movie was excellent, saw it the other day. Bowlcuts were how we got down in the 80s. Chigurh was great. Reminded me of Robbie from Everybody Loves Raymond. |

Sadly, they're going to ride this wave and try to make a BLOOD MERIDIAN film with Ridley Scott at the helm. Translating BLOOD MERIDIAN into a film would be like trying to make a singing telegram out of Proust. |

I agree. But, I'm glad Ridley Scott is attached and I think they are in Pre-Production right now. I just hope they don;t tone down the violence. |

I've read NCFOM, All the Pretty Horses, and The Crossing. Some of his writing reminded me of Gabriel Garcia Marquez in 100 years of Solitude. I did find annoying McCarthy's lengthy passages in spanish. what the hell were they talking about???? |

I've read Blood Meridian, No Country for Old Men, and The Road. I thought they were all awesome. Which of his other novels would you suggest as his best? |

"I did find annoying McCarthy's lengthy passages in spanish. what the hell were they talking about" Depends on the passage, but translations are available online if you google hard enough. |

Child of God was creepy, but not very good. It doesn't hold up at all to BLOOD MERIDIAN or most likely THE ROAD. SUTREE is very beatifully written but I haven't read much of it. |

One part that stuck out the most for me in Blood Meridian was when the bear was shot in the saloon towards the end of the novel. Is it wrong that I thought this was the saddest scene in the whole book? I mean, I know it was largly symbolic and there were plenty of other scenes of death and depravity. But, that poor bear. All he knew how to do was dance. Even after he had been shot and the music stopped, he still kept dancing. What a sad doomed dance before death. |

^lol. I feel like everyone who has read the book deserves a merit badge or something. It was quite a struggle, but worth it. |

Wasn't just the vocabulary, it was the lack of a plot. BLOOD MERIDIAN is less a novel and more a meditation on the nature of violence during the fight for the West. It's almost like reading the book of Eccleasties mixed in with Job and Revelations. |

Great thread. I just finished The Road and haven't been able to stop hugging my two kids. That book is sure to stay with me for awhile. Judging by this thread my second McCarthy book should be Blood Meridian? |

All the Pretty Horses is my favorite out of the 3 books I've read so far. I liked the Road. I think? I couldn't stop reading it and when I finished it I was kind of sick to my stomach. Blood Meridian, well everyone says it's like Moby Dick. It's overly long, boring at times, and when I finished I thought "what in the fuck did I miss?" Since I couldn't make heads nor tails of it. I'm going to read the rest of the Border Trilogy once I finish a few other books I've got laying about. |

I'm currently reading Blood Meridian, initially i had a dictionary in hand the entire time, but i gave that up. I think I'd never finish the book if i kept looking up words |

Just finished The Road. Wow, what a book. Much easier to read than Blood Meridian. I finished it in about 3 sittings. Really a book to get lost in. He makes you feel like youre a part of that world. One thing I found interesting; As I look back at the book, I think it should have been really boring, but it wasnt. At all. Any thoughts on why that is, and has anyone else noticed that? |
