Some of his writing reminded me of Gabriel Garcia Marquez in 100 years of Solitude. I did find annoying McCarthy's lengthy passages in spanish. what the hell were they talking about???? One part that stuck out the most for me in Blood Meridian was when the bear was shot in the saloon towards the end of the novel. Is it wrong that I thought this was the saddest scene in the whole book? I mean, I know it was largly symbolic and there were plenty of other scenes of death and depravity. But, that poor bear. All he knew how to do was dance. Even after he had been shot and the music stopped, he still kept dancing. What a sad doomed dance before death.

BLOOD MERIDIAN is less a novel and more a meditation on the nature of violence during the fight for the West. It's almost like reading the book of Eccleasties mixed in with Job and Revelations. All the Pretty Horses is my favorite out of the 3 books I've read so far. I liked the Road. I think? I couldn't stop reading it and when I finished it I was kind of sick to my stomach. Blood Meridian, well everyone says it's like Moby Dick. It's overly long, boring at times, and when I finished I thought "what in the fuck did I miss?" Since I couldn't make heads nor tails of it. I'm going to read the rest of the Border Trilogy once I finish a few other books I've got laying about.

Just finished The Road. Wow, what a book. Much easier to read than Blood Meridian. I finished it in about 3 sittings. Really a book to get lost in. He makes you feel like youre a part of that world. One thing I found interesting; As I look back at the book, I think it should have been really boring, but it wasnt. At all. Any thoughts on why that is, and has anyone else noticed that?
