I have a '93 Olds Cutlass Supreme. It's in the shop now, so I can't remember if it has a 3.1 or 3.4L V-6. Anyways, were these one of the worst engines ever from GM? I haven't talked to anyone that has one that didn't leak a ton of oil - mine leaks about a quart of oil every ~250 miles/1 week. Because of the way the engine is situated, it's actually more cost effective to just keep putting oil in it than spending $800+ to get it fixed. Now, I'm leaking water and coolant like crazy. It's coming from the intake manifold, so it's too expensive to fix($1,000). I only paid $1,300 for the car back in 2000. I think it's getting time to give this car to my brother since he can actually fix it himself and use it. Anyone else have a similar model or experience? |

There's a heater hose fitting that connects to the intake manifold where the thermostat sits. Its made of dissimilar metal that just rots away on the aluminum intake. You have to remove the exhaust crossover pipe and thermostat to see it. Mine was so bad no threads were left. So I JB welded in the new one. It held for 30K till I sold it. It cost me like $20 to fix. |

you most likely have the 3.1 the intake manifold gaskets are common.it is about a $700-$750 job.the oil leak could be the camshaft synconizer/distributor o-ring seal.we include it in the manifold gasket job. the 3.4 that white347lx had is a frigging nightmare to work on.we have 1 customer that has a convertable cutlass with that engine in it. i run when ever it comes in the shop. |

there are 2 3.4 litres you had the "RACE" version with dohc and 24 vlave.what a frigging nightmare. the first one i worked on i had to do the distributor o-ring. i thought it was a 3.1. i opened the hood took a look and almost cried.you had to pull the cylinder head to do it. i refuse to work on the one comes into the shop i work at. |
