Have any of you american's been to South Africa? Reason I ask I was chatting about this with my wife (who is mixed race South African, but would be considerd 'black' by western definitions) How did you find it over there and particularly people's perception of you over there. South African mixed race communities are more comparable to western black people (namely UK/US) in terms of physical comparisons and cultural comparisons, but obviously apartheid as a system was comparable to segregation in the states so historically there is an affinity. How did you find the coloured/black difference down there? |

I'm British and hated it. I heard white people use the "K" word to blacks working in supermarkets. Awful undercurrent. Its just my opinion though. Everyone will be different. |

LoiseauElbow - I'm British and hated it. yeah thats not how all south africans are, i lived in swaziland all my life, used to go to SA on the weekends, lovely place |
