What would be my best bet to pick up in the form of a telephoto lens for my Canon XSi. Doesn't have to be dirt cheap just looking for the best bang for the buck I was looking at a Sigma 70-300mm but I dont know what the DG or APO letters mean on them. Any help will be appreciated |

What are you looking to do with this lens? Will it be used mainly outdoors, inside, in low light conditions, to photograph still objects, etc? |

Ill drop 300 for that 55-250mm especially after all the reviews I read. I just can't stomach dropping 1100 for the 70-200m 2.8 right now... my wife would start complaining and then I would have to slap her down |

UConnDolt - Ill drop 300 for that 55-250mm especially after all the reviews I read. Seriously, the level of awesomeness that is the 70-200mm L f2.8 will quiet your wife :) Once you go "L", you don't go back. |

Man man man... makes me think I should have maybe held out lol Oh well I already purchased the 55-250mm tonight and will take it for a spin. Hopefully by xmas I will pick up the L |

When it comes to taking high-speed pics in low-light areas, L won't do much for it, it's the aperture (or the F/x.x) that's important. If you can get a F/2.8 lens, go for it. Or you can always look for something like a longer fixed-length F/1.4 or F/1.8 lens...it won't be a zoom, but it will be grea for low-light shooting when you can't use flash. And the best bang for the buck for any fast lens is the 50mm F/1.8...you can get those for $100 new. |

I got the 50mm 1.8 already and it is awesome as fuckkkk and I got my 55-250mm in today but I haven't played with it yet |

Yes, it's true that you need a fast lens for MMA and there have been non-"L" lenses that have rivaled the optical quality of actual "L" lenses but for the most part, "L" lenses take a much better picture and it's very noticeable. The sharpness and detail is incredible with some of the lenses. With Canon, you truly are paying for what you get when it comes to their upper end lenses (even though I do feel that most of their lenses are overpriced to begin with). |

I have to play around with the 55-250mm lens a LOT I see hehe, it is going to be nice for normal use though. Just have to get used to a telephoto lens and how it functions. |

$1100 is cheap for that Canon 70-200 f2.8. I shoot Nikon and that badboy will cost $1800 for me. |
