Grappler A attempts to throw Grappler B with a head/arm hip toss (common wrestling takedown). Grappler B manages to get off of A's hip, but is still taken down by trip with A maintaining control of B's head/arm. A maintains control on the ground for more than 3 seconds in side control on B. How many points does A get? |

A gets 3 for the throw, and 3 more for getting and maintaining side control for 3 seconds. 6 points for grappler A. That's what I'm thinking. |

OK. It's hard to visualize some of this stuff. My intent was to illustrate a throw gone bad that ended up being a takedown. For a throw to occur, the thrown guy's feet have to be at least his waist level or higher to get "amplitude". My example intended to show a guy who almost got thrown but ended up tripped and thus, no throw. 2 points for the takedown and 3 for the side control. I can see where that one would be confusing, but that's another reason why I wanted to do this. |

I agree Hiza. Takedown without amplitude. And then side control points. |

Hiza, I actually thought that was what you were going for. In a word problem people rarely include useless information. For some reason I didn't notice that takedowns and throws scored differently. |

To be fair, you are not getting scored "differently." You are scoring a takedown and an extra point for coolness. Technically. In wrestling, you will get extra points for taking the opponent to his back from the feet and more points for throwing him in a high arch in which his feet go above his hips in the air. All are just bionuses that are scored on top of the takedown. |
