I never have ever practiced in 25 years on my electric using an amp. I've always just played it acoustically. That could explain why I never sound as good as I thought I was when I practice because I don't really "hear" what it is actually going to sound like when it comes out of the amp (finger noise, inarticulate picking, etc). I don't recommend it, just what I've done. You have ignored this user.

Sometimes it's a sweet tube stereo amp and sometimes it's plugged into my car amp which makes for some amazing feedback.........and I can go wherever I want. What's really fun is plugging in a midi sound module and using a small midi keyboard to make live sounds or play and manipulate samples while in traffic. You have ignored this user.

I have a little Traveler guitar that I play when I'm on the road. I miss the days when I lived out in the country and could play my big amp. My Soldano just sits there, lookin' at me all pitiful. I play unplugged electric to practice almost exclusively. My gig rig is a Marshall Silver Jubilee full stack so no so sweet for quiet noodling. If I plug in to practice its a '66 Fender Princeton with a Marshally distortion pedal for gain (I bounce between a Carl Martin Plexitone, Tone Bone PlexiDrive or MI Audio Crunch Box) My practice amp of choice is my Peavey Rage but the input is loose and it crackles like crazy.
