looks like he has sound mechanics how old is he? I'd keep him away from private pitching lessons and all that, makes them throw like a machine most the time, I dont like it and a straight change is the best pitch in baseball, I didnt learn one until college but it became my #1 pitch. Nolan Ryan said it was his best pitch and he didnt start throwing one until he was 40 I think. I was a lefty also, played 2 years Class A ball. I've been through it all, if you have any questions let me know. |

Why is his entire body faced forward before he starts the pitch ? He might have problems if someone were on 1st base and trying to steal 2nd. |

You probably already know this, but make sure to limit his pitch counts and the amount of breaking balls he throws in the next few years. It's a shame that there are coaches out there will let their 13 year old pitchers throw 150 pitches and while relying on the curve. By the time a lot of kids get to high school they're already showing elbow problems. |

I know him from the forums and I used to bang a chic he knew but thats it, I know he played baseball Maccaco, he's a Freshman or Sophomore? Awesome he's pitching Varsity how hard is he throwing? Lot of movement on his fastball? Most important thing for kids to learn at that age is keeping the walks down, throw strikes |

Solid mechanics. Hides the ball well for a lefty. Best thing for him is to throw a healthy amount and keep building arm strength. Make sure when he works out and lifts to make his legs a priority, not his "beach muscles". |

and pitch INSIDE, he should have a rep for throwing inside, the opposing teams should be talking about it on the ride over to his park. It will make him have much more success high and tight, pitchers own, dont let the batters dig in and get comfortable this is neglected a lot by coaches but is very important This was a huge part of Pedro Martinez and Roger Clemens success |

HP in right - pitching inside is a lost art. Especially with today's lefties. They like to stay outsdie becasue in HS and youth ball most righties can't hit that an outside pitch with any type of speed on it. In college/pros that outside pitch usually finds a bleacher. |

pitching inside to keep them from digging in, not to throw strikes, thats not what I'm talking about. I'm talking about Chin Music, having the batter worried your going to drop them, thats pitching I had the worst coach in HS but he did teach us the knock down pitch and keeping batters honest I'm not saying hitting anyone in the head, just keeping them honest hard nose baseball wins |

Thanks HP, He's been working on placing pitches instead of just trying to blow it by hitters. I coached for a dozen years and often see kids who were very good at an ealry age using speed. Unfortunately, the kids that relied on speed are now getting tagged. |

ball movement is critical as well. I played against Javier Lopez (Rockies, Redsox) and he threw 90 but his ball had no movement - you could "run into" his pitch and it would go somewhere. He changed to side arm in college and is now in the bigs. |

GucciGucciGucci - Why is his entire body faced forward before he starts the pitch ? I'm sure he throws from the stretch with runners on, not a full wind up. |

knucklers always make career pitchers. the only problem is no kid wants to give up heaters to learn to control the knucklers. |
