I'm a fishing newbie, only gone once before. We're going up to some cali mountains, camping, and fishing for trout. Last time for bait i used salmon eggs, that flourescent-colored clay-like fishy stuff, and those worms. Any advice on other bait, or any tips on catching? I caught about 4 last time, in the creeks, but they had a pond where those elusive f'ers wouldnt bite. They actually ate the worm i used, every part except what was on the hook. |

For bait fishing, I usually have the best luck with salmon eggs. I think that's because nobody else uses them anymore. |

Joe Flies with the treble hook cut off small rooster tails corn the best of all is the natural food sources of the stream. Crawdad's and fly larvae(where legal) there is nothing better than these. |

you are probably using too sturdy a rod if the trout are small. use a lightweight rod and you'll get enough action to know when to set the hook. |

Check the fishing area for wingless grasshoppers, Catch a few and allow them to float past the little breaks and pools |

I'm seconding the corn... Cheap, easy to carry, trout love it, especially if you're in a stream with some stockers... |

I'm a bait fisherman mostly when it comes to trout. If you can find them, butterworms work great. They are pretty expensive though. Maggots, mealworms, waxworms, and night crawlers all work too. I've found that certain worms work better in certain creeks and on certain days than others. I ususally keep trying unitl I find the right one. I'm leaving tomorow for camp and it's the first time I been out this year. I can't wait. |

All the trout were either on flys or roostertails. Never had any luck with PB or worms. |

You have to be quiet and sneak up on trout..You can`t have a party on the bank and expect to catch any.. |

I'm going to try and pull these little fuckers out of a stocked lake soon. I hope the lake makes them stupid. www.trails.com/facts_36423_angle-lake-washington-fishing.html |
