Welp, I spoke to my local dealership today. No mark up and they will allow GMS pricing (Father is retired GM.) The shipment is going to come in August and I am going to be putting a deposit down July for it. I'm so fucking stoked! ![]() |

Are you going with the standard transmission or the auto with the paddles? |

He's a heterosexual, so he'll be ordering the six speed manual. |

How is the back end in person? That is the one thing people have been telling me they don't like? I dunno... |

White347LX - He's a heterosexual, so he'll be ordering the six speed manual. Yeah, I wouldn't be able to own a car with an auto unless I owned more than one car. Funny thing about the CTS-V is that the auto version is programmed so well that John H did the record lap at the 'Ring in the sedan without using the paddles. Going around a track with an auto doesn't sound like much fun though. |

I used to say the same thing about a stick until my porsche test drives that I posted about here. I did back to back with a tiptronic in manual mode and a really good 6 speed. I could drive either and both were still fun. You just need to make sure if you're gonna have an auto with manual shifting that you test drive and it shifts well. |

White347LX - He's a heterosexual, so he'll be ordering the six speed manual. we now have automatics that are faster than a manual. other than being a control freak what whats the benefit of buying a manual these days? and don't say fuel mileage, we're not talking about the slushboxes that came out in the 60's any more. |

Mr.Negative -White347LX - He's a heterosexual, so he'll be ordering the six speed manual. For me, it's more fun driving a manual. It makes my commute to work more interesting because I'm judging what gear to go in and I heel and toe. It's more challenging and requires more thinking than an auto. So, it isn't about advantages, I just enjoy driving manuals more than autos. Also, I've seen quite a few situations where drivers were frustrated with downshifts and such in magazine tests with paddle shifters. So, in some situations, depending on the car, the manual version (if available) may be the better choice for track use. |

Road Warrior Fin - How is the back end in person? That is the one thing people have been telling me they don't like? I dunno... The whole car looks amazing, including the read end. It may be a bit too angular for some but I loved it. Also, I have been driving a stick for over 20years and got a chance to drive a manushift gti and I loved it. I am sure the caddy would be the same. There is no way in hell you can shift as fast as those dual clutch automatics...now if the car didn't have a shiftable auto I would never in a million years but it. |

Yeah, people can get frustrated with the shifting. Some cars won't downshift until revs are low enough for it to be "safe" causing lag. I know at least one person that liked this behavior. He would go into a corner and hit the button, effectively queuing the downshift. Then he's late brake and it would get him in gear just before he turned on. Scary, but as long as its consistent I guess its ok. I'd rather just have it shift when I want. :D |

tetris - There is no way in hell you can shift as fast as those dual clutch automatics... It's not a matter of how fast the trans shifts, it's a matter of how much power a automatic trans eats up and how long until it burns up. |

In a track car that is a consideration, but you're not going to burn up most auto trans cars in street driving with an occasional track day. I don't think many CTS-V's will EVER see a track. :D |

Actually, driving around town is exactly what kills most automatic transmissions. Unfortunately, you're correct about CTS-Vs never seeing a track of any sort. I bet the percentage is way less than even Vettes and Vipers. |

ChristPuncher - Those are awesome cars no doubt; though I can't really comprehend spending that much money on any car. I think I make decent money compared to my peers (around 130K) and 50-65K for a car seems insane. I just got rid of everything in my life. My house, getting rid of the GTO, going back to 0 - I'm not too far off from you and I'm just going to enjoy the ride instead of collecting shit. |
