The desire to see an extension of itself before it dies. "It" being anything that reproduces. |

You are saying Viruses have desirse ?. Are they not too simple for that ? What does this mean, exactly, "desires, or perhaps "instincts." Is "desire/instinct" in this usage a bit similar to: q: Why does it rain ; a: God does it |

In the case of a virus (which is hard to say whether or not is "living") I think it's just what it does, its "natural order" so to speak. Why does the sun shine? Why does rain fall down? Why are leaves green? It's just the way it is. I have a feeling this conversation is leading to whether or not the concept of a "living" thing is even valid. Everything is just matter. |

If you can get true Strong AI to work, hats off to you. Creating sentience would be quite the feat. |

Isn't a virus just a protein code-some DNA in a container and not actually alive incapable of reproduction. Does DNA have a motivation to replicate unto it self ? Our motivation to reproduce is hard coded in our DNA, does the DNA activity want to reproduce or is it a neutral instruction set, or is something else going on entirely. Viruses do seem react in ways when in contact with host cells that seem life like ...like they want to reproduce. |

Government is an anti-virus program that pops up uninvited, claims to have detected viruses that aren't really there, then installs a virus when it convinces you to run it. Government is the malware of civilization... |
