I guess my thoughts are, "Why a Harley?" when there are so many cooler, faster, lighter, cheaper bike out there? Why not get something cheaper, smaller and less expensive to learn on and possibly drop? |

Well, at $6,999 brand new, that's pretty freakin' cheap amirite? And I guess the reason why, is that is just the kind of bike I've always wanted. I don't have an actual "valid" reason for going with a Harley instead of another bike. |

get a used sportster 1200 with that price with extras on it. sportster resale sucks bad and u will get bored real fast with an 883. |

Yep, buy a used Sporty and save some money for your next bike. Or, get a metric and save even more! |

Get a bobber/rat bike...looks cool, and its super cheap. If you drop it a few times it will only add character |

I grew up around bikers. They had ZERO respect for any man riding a Sportster, they considered those to acceptable only for their wives/bitches to ride. Pick up an older Jap cruiser to get started. If you screw it up, no big loss. |

The low/classic Sportsters are great for short riders. I'm 6'5" and felt like a circus bear on a tricycle when I moved those things around the warehouse. I sold 14 of them last summer and every buyer was a woman or a guy buying it for his woman. They're cheap and easy to ride which makes it perfect for your needs, IMO. Have fun putting miles on your new bike! |

Eh, I've been looking into yamaha 650's to bob out. You can get one already done, or do the work yourself for half the price you're going to pay for that, and you will have a very nice custom. |

It's a chick bike in the sense that smaller/female riders may be more comfortable on a smaller, lighter bike like the Sportster. The C models have a low seat height so it's even more comfy for short riders. Of course, this only applies to those riders who are dead set on getting a Harley. There are better choices from other brands in this segment, but some motorcycle buyers only look at Harley Davidson for whatever reason. |

RsrvorDog - Do old school bikers look down on guys on a sportster? I hear that many consider it a chicks bike. I've heard that too. My attitude is that unless you are the one paying for my bike, you should shut your god damned cock-holster! :P And I'm 5'4' and 140 lbs....so....it fits me perfectly. :) It's my first bike and I think I chose well....I've got about 700 miles on it so far. |

i have an 07 sporty...and it's a great bike...i actually was gonna buy an iron 883 and do the big bore conversion on it...but they didn't have the black at the dealer so i looked at some used 1200's and got the bike i have now. i love it. i'm in the middle of making alot of mods on it. i'm 5'8 and just put 16 inch apes on it. and changed the seat to a lower further back seat and it has stock forward control son it...fits me perfect. ![]() |

Sagiv Lapkin - Nice scoot Pretjah! thanks. hopefully over the next year or so i'll ahve it finished....custom sissy bar, new pipes, new front end, new pegs, new head light, new tail light, lower the rear turn signals to the back of the swing arm and some hand etching & pinstriping onto different parts of the bike. |

I think I need a lower seat. I'm not flat footed and I don't really wanna be on the balls of my feet. |
