It's refreshing to see someone in Thiago's situation openly take responsibility and apologize like he did. That said, my level of respect for the dude certainly does not increase as a result of all this (it seems like some of you are, for lack of a better word, stupid or you have some kind of "vested interest" in this whole thing....).

Thiago was one of my favorite fighters, but the dude cheated, and as a result Brandon Vera's nose looked like fucking silly puddy after that fight. I can't imagine what Vera has had to go through to get that "fixed", and I feel like he will probably never be the same fighter again (mentally or physically). That's kinda unforgivable in my book and maybe adds fuel to the fire for the argument that roid'ers (or people who submit fake urine altogether) should be banned for life.

Anyway, for me, the apology and admission allows me to maintain some level of respect for the dude (unlike other cheaters who just flat out lie about it), but he did not gain 'MaD RespEcTTTorz' from for illegally altering another fighter's career.

Seriously this, the guy used a NON HUMAN URINE SAMPLE expecting not to get caught...you really believe he is capable of writing/thinking that?

I got my money on Dana White calling his ass and pressuring him to come clean so that he can go on about how MMA fighters are not like all these other athletes and all that other bullshit he likes to say towards the media.

Billy Butcher - Still a fan and always will be.

This guy does deserve respect for coming clean even though he tried to cover it up.

I don't get all the hate either. What, none of you guys ever made a big ass mistake? You never did something you wish you could take back? And he sure as hell deserves more respect than most of these pussy football and baseball players who constantly roid out, deny, and count their millions of dollars.

He made a mistake, he apologized, he accepts full responsibility and will take the punishment like a man. What more do you want?

Silva didn't make a "mistake." He knowingly and intentionally violated the rules of competition. A mistake would be, oops, I dropped the cup of urine and now you have to clean up your floor.

Brandon Vera signed up to fight a CLEAN opponent. In any other contractual situation, the breacher of the contract would be forced to pay the resultant damages of the breach; how about Silva pays for Vera's nose surgery?

lol at your naivety. He's not honest, he's just sorry that NSAC's testing technology is better than that of an easy bake oven.

An apology is nice from a child when they misbehave, not from a professional fighter who dopes and destroys the nose of their opponent with chemical assistance.

That appears to be stealing, not cheating or lying. He said he doesnt like guys who lie or cheat. Unless he was asked about his paperclips or pencils and lied, your point missed the mark.

His MMA career was in jeapordy, he had to do what he had to do. He admitted wrong doing. Cut the nicca a break. Vera's career was in jeopardy too. So is it ok that one man lost his job (since reinstated after Silva got caught) so that Silva could keep his? You have ignored this user.

Gross indeed. I don't want anything else from him (other than maybe him paying for Vera's hospital bill); I'm just vexed at how many people are showing him respect for his team's official statement as if that exonerates him for his transgressions.

I would start with: A) not cheating to begin with. B) once you decided to cheat, realize it's wrong at that point, and stop it. C) Once you are questioned on your test, own up to it immediately rather than wait it out until everyone knows you are busted and you can't talk your way out of it -- then, and only then posting a great apology.

Those are just a few things I would "want".

All that said, I do still respect his being honest here, and hope he gets it together. He's a true bad ass and fun fighter to watch. But let's not get it twisted. He's apologizing after the fact.

lol, let someone tell you that you will be unable to fight/provide for your family, then see what lengths you are willing to take to be sure you make the fight, wake up...

Ok...this is getting ridiculous...everyone has a point. I give him a little more respect than those that cheat and never admit it (Barnett), but lets not get it twisted, the little respect he gets from me is the closest rating to 0 that there can be (Barnett being 0 respect from me). THE GUY ADMITTED AFTER HE GOT CAUGHT. What else do you expect him to do? All he did was prove he's smarter than most of you. Yes he did an interview where he said he didn't cheat and take anything, clean blood etc...fair nuff...but this family thing about feeding them and doing what he had to do??? GIVE ME A BREAK. Look at it like this, he could have backed out of the Vera fight and missed a pay day, and gotten another next month, or he could have (according to thiago) gotten proper treatment and STILL have been able to fight (no one has mentioned that part about his 'admission' so far!). But what did he do? He cheated, got busted, and instead of NOT missing a payday (with proper treatment as he stated) he takes it upon himself to roid it up, get caught and NOT MAKE MONEY FOR A YEAR while on suspension. It makes absolutely no sense. If (or anyone with some common sense) was in his situation, he should have consulted a doctor first (like most people with legit injuries do) to find out he could have still fought...looks like he went to a doctor after he got busted and they were like 'yeah you could have fought anyway!'. So now he feels really dumb. It was not pain killers, it was roids, period. The dood's physique was off the charts and everyone on here is like 'OH I LOVE YOU NOW I'M A FAN THIAGO YOU'RE A MAN FOR ADMITTING...' STFU. He didn't admit jack. MAD PROPS to him if after the Vera fight before the results he was like 'you know i had a back injury and i roided to help with the pain so i wouldn't miss this pay day' at the press conference, but he didn't. A man confesses his wrong doing before anyone knows he did anything wrong, because his morals and character will eat at him until its unbearable and forces himself to confess...remember that people.
