Just found this forum after years lurking on the UG. I love it although it doesnt seem to get much attention. I dont even know if the OP is still around. But...I've been trying to get "holds" cleared up in my mind for awhile now.

So it must be a save situation in the 7th or 8th? yet you can not close out the game?...I think i have that right

What about a save situation in the 8th yet the lead is by 4 or more? i.e. bases loaded in the 8th in a 5-1 game. You hold that lead but then beginning in the 9th it is no longer a save situation? So it is not a hold?

in your situation if he comes in with bases loade 5-1 in the 8th it's a hold. the closer in the 9th wouldn't get a save though.


if he stayed in in the 9th he would get a save not the hold.
