bjws -duckhuntgangsta - UFC needs to respect Rashad. Getting dogged out of two title shots and now he's fighting a PROSPECT!!? Come on dawg. <img src="/images/phone/post_tag.png" alt="Phone Post" border="0" style="vertical-align:middle;"/> I doubt it. Rashad gets screwed out of a title shot and has to face an NCAA D1 champion instead. I don't think he's in on it like you say. |

There is not much that the UFC does that pisses me off, but Rashad is being mistreated. Being a former champion and nothing but a gentleman he deserves more respect. This fight should be for an intern title at the least. |

For a man who will not have fought in 15 months, Rashad has sure managed to generate a lot of sound and fury. But you have to wonder if by the time this emotional roller-coaster of his has run its course, whether he will have any psychic energy left. Rashad spins a compelling yarn though. He always has. I guess that's why those of us who love him so much do. And hey, just because they fight for a living doesn't mean they stop being human - and no one out there fighting today drives that point home better than Rashad. |

The definitive cure for REDS - Rashad Evans Derangement Syndrome, since that's exactly what it is - is for Rashad to move down to 185. At 185, Rashad would be willing to stand and trade far more often (see his wins over Jason Lambert and Sean Salmon, both undersized LHWs - just like Rashad - who are now in fact fighting at 185), and would become a much more popular fighter as a result. Besides, there's a lot of garbage in the UFC middleweight division if you think about it - and Rashad would be just the man to take that garbage out. Rashad could be more than just the champion at 185 - he could be The People's Champion. I only hope we can find out someday. |

I concur. Truth be told Rashad could drop to MW and get a title shot immediately or after one win.

Well actually it would not work that way: Dana White doesn't like Rashad, and would not be inclined to give him a fast track to the title; Rashad would have to go through the obligatory series of gatekeepers - but hey, that would not only allow Rashad to build momentum for the opportunity when it finally came, but by then Anderson Silva - the only fighter who would plausibly stand in the way of Rashad winning the MW title - could very well be gone from the scene, either because he moved up to 205, or simply went bad without any warning, just like Chuck did when he was only slightly older than AS is now (36). And how would you feel about Rashad fighting Mayhem? That has all the makings of a totally awesome fight. |

I'm not offended by Rashad calling Jones "white boy." It's like Bisbing or Rampage throwing around the word "faggot." They don't mean anything by it. I do find it interesting to see all the haters come out of the wood work (literally in the case of Ghostwriter) because now all the closet KKK members have some stupid "white boy" comment to cling on to, and no it is not the same as a white person calling another white person the n-word. The term "N*gger" has been used to repress a people for a long time, the term "white boy" is silly jive.

Rashad fan signing in. Jones is dicktucking mad hard or Kawa is trying to prevent that fight from happening. Either way, the Jones camp is pretty phony. Rashad was right. |

I don't know if Jones is ducking, but he sure as hell is messing with Rashad's career. I don't think Jones is afraid to fight him, I do think that there would be nothing worse to Jones than losing to Rashad. |

Let me say that I don't like the racial stuff - don't like it one bit. Maybe that's because I can truthfully say that I have never even once looked at Rashad and seen a black fighter. This is due to the fact that Rashad's size - or more accurately, his lack of same - has always been his enduring narrative, not his race; and interestingly, I'd even say that the vast majority of the hate directed at Rashad is size- rather than race-related - all the "lay and pray" taunts he has had to endure stemming from his refusal to be another Ross Pointon just to please a bunch of beer-guzzling peons who are lucky if they are making $10 an hour. Rashad has gotten an awful lot out of what he has: A body type that is all wrong for MMA (so long as he stays at 205 anyway), and let's be brutally honest here - a mediocre stint as a collegiate wrestler, going just 48-34 at Michigan State and never even qualifying for the national tournament, much less winning it as other wrestlers-turned-MMA fighters like Kevin Randleman and Phil Davis have. Thus Rashad is a tough little man (at least in the context of the weight class in which he fights) and an overachiever - and that's how I will always see him, unless of course he decides to stop banging his head against this brick wall and move down to 185 (and hey, I wouldn't even rule out 170 for Rashad at some point: After all, isn't Josh Koscheck fighting at 170 after having wrestled at 174 in his senior year in college, just as Rashad did?). It's not how big you are, it's what you have inside of you that counts - and that's the message that Rashad has driven home so poignantly for so long; but if the seemingly inevitable happens and he proves no match for who could be the greatest fighter this sport has ever seen, and for that matter ever will see, no one should think less of Rashad if he then opts to henceforth compete in a more realistic weight division for him. So let's leave race out of this - and GO RASHAD! |

AnthonyBrancato - you should look harder. he's black... that being said... you are right it don't matter but ignoring anything like that is just as foolish IMO; people come from different roots, and most people that aint white... are proud about 'overcoming' their roots.... its not like racism is gone or forgotten these days... its just a natural fact that Rashad will be looked at as a black fighter, african-american, or whatever the PC term is these days.... oh and im a Rashad fan... always liked him, lotta heart, hope he shuts up Bones when they fight eventually... |
