I disagree if NO GI is good for MMA then surely it is just as good for street isn't it??

I think that with training in either you will beat an average guy if it turns into a grappling match no matter what they are wearing. However, if you train no gi you're not used to people grabbing at your clothes to control you and also you being able to grab belts, collars (if they have them), sleeves etc. You can pull collar chokes from all angles if a guy has a collared shirt or jacket on and the untrained won't see them coming. You don't need to take someones back, or wrap your legs around their head. And if they have no collar you can just use other techniques. If you grapple a no gi guy of equal skill and he has no shirt on he'll probably beat you. But what are the odds of that.

Having said that, I prefer no gi as it covers all situations. But I would give a slight advantage towards gi in a clothed environment for self defense, especially against an untrained or bigger opponent.
