So wait, the original dc lines are being maintained? I thought this was a reboot of them not an alternate universe. |

BigWilliam - So wait, the original dc lines are being maintained? I thought this was a reboot of them not an alternate universe. It's a reboot of the DCU --- but as DA and JudOWNED have cleverly deduced...it looks like DC is leaving themselves a way out if things fail. Another review - that's very critical. Still, the points are well argued - I'd recommend giving it a read: From http://comicsworthreading.com/2011/08/31/its-all-changed-forever-again-thoughts-on-the-new-dcu-52/ "This gamble is alienating existing readers and habitual buyers who liked what they were getting. They have no reason to continue, since the promise is what they liked is gone. Will all this publicity attract new readers? Not based on the sole example we have so far. Justice League #1 doesn’t show the team in action — instead, it’s mostly a Batman/Green Lantern story. It has no female characters. And critically, it doesn’t serve as sufficient introduction. Graeme McMillan writes: “Where was the introduction to DC Comics? You know what I mean: A text piece for new readers who’ve been swayed by the hype into picking up their first DC comic in quite some time, the kind of thing that Marvel has become very good at including in the first issue of their event books. Considering the positioning of JL #1 as the flagship book of the relaunch, I’m surprised that there was no real attempt to say ‘Hello, new readers! This is why the Justice League is important, here are where you can find out more about each member, and here are some other books you might want to check out.’” |

MarkRobinson - I thought him swiping the ring was perfectly reasonable. I disagree. Granted, we haven't been told how the ring works, but I would expect the most powerful weapon in the Universe to have some sort of physical bond - so that it cannot be removed without the user's consent. If that's not the case, then the first act of every villain a GL faces should be to tear off the GL's hand (or arm or whatever). In this issue, Hal reverts to normal without the ring, right? - so I would guess no ring = powerless GL. |

paw -Not exactly. It showed that GL still had a natural connection to the ring that went beyond his physical possession of it. He drew it right back to his hand. Plus, it probably has something to do with will power. It was an unexpected move by Bats, and something I assume GL had never encountered before. I bet it will never, or could never happen again.MarkRobinson - I thought him swiping the ring was perfectly reasonable. |

That is a good point. Previously the ring has been sort of bonded to the user. Of course previous versions of Hal Jordan have not been quite so... arrogant either. |

I think the three timelines they were talking about are Vertigo, Wildstorm and DC, not DCNu, Old DC and Wildstorm. |

Jim Lee and Geoff Johns interview http://www.comicbookresources.com/?page=article&id=34201 snippettes: Johns: For me, it was all about making the book as accessible as possible and as fun as possible. Batman and Green ![]() Johns: Yeah, the Parademons are completely different from anything you've ever seen. You don't really know about them yet, and there's a lot more to them than what's been revealed in the first issue. And we're playing Darkseid differently than he's been played before. Johns: They are. And when Superman comes into the mix and everybody else comes in, I want the Justice League to be interesting. I want, when they say, "Hey Batman and Green Lantern, go check that out," for it to be that you can't wait to see them together. Hal rolls his eyes and Batman says, "I'll do it myself." Then Hal says, "No, I'll do it with you" and then he makes a Batman with his ring and they go off. [Lee Laughs] For me, a lot of the fun is in seeing Hal Jordan's bravado play off of Batman. Lee: He's got a real swagger. Johns: Yeah! And a smile and hints where he apologizes to Batman once in the first issue where it's a subtle idea that he knows he's flawed, but he also goes, "I've got this ring and it can do anything, so back off." I love that he has that attitude. There are a lot of scenes coming up where you watch the team play off each other, and it's surprising. When Flash comes into the mix, or Wonder Woman, you don't know what to expect. Moving forward, the fun of the book should be these characters interacting and taking on the challenges they have to because otherwise, the world is screwed. Lee: [Laughs] Barry seems very much an innocent to me. Johns: He is. He's the guy that really believes in good. He's always going, "Can't we get along?" Lee: He's the most virtuous of the bunch. Johns: And Superman's a little stand off-ish. Lee: He's much cockier than people are used to seeing. Johns: He's super-powerful, and he knows it. Wonder Woman is probably the most confident of them all, and she's also the most interested in this world. She was the most fun to write in issue #3. So it is all about personality first. I think that falling in love with the characters is why you're going to want to keep reading the book. |

"Plus, it probably has something to do with will power. It was an unexpected move by Bats, and something I assume GL had never encountered before." This. When Deathstroke took on GL in Identity Crisis, he deduced the ring worked on willpower and said something to the effect that they would see who's willpower was strongest when he locked hands with Kyle Rayner and apparently started crushing his ring hand. GL couldn't do anything about it but struggle. Luckily, he was saved by Green Arrow when he stabbed DS in the eye. |

the jordan in this story is a rookie.....he probably doesn't realize he coudl make it so the ring wouldn;t allow that to happen... GL: hey how did that happen Ring: you never told me not to GL: don;t let that happen again Ring: OK |

Invincible - This. GL couldn't do anything about it but struggle. Luckily, he was saved by Green Arrow when he stabbed DS in the eye. I don't believe that Identity Crisis happened in this brave new DCU. If that's they way DC has decided the ring works now, that's fine. I mean, their rules and all. It just strikes me as stupid. |

paw -BigWilliam - So wait, the original dc lines are being maintained? I thought this was a reboot of them not an alternate universe. That's a good read. Thanks for posting that. I agree with that. This didn't feel like a JLA book but more like a team up book. I guess because that's what it was. The League doesn't exist yet and from the sounds of it the league probably won't exist until issue 4 or 5. |

Will all this publicity attract new readers? Not based on the sole example we have so far. Um, shouldn't the answer to that question be based on sales figures and not their opinion of the comic? |

well before i didnt care to even get started on any of the story arcs. With the "reboot" i think its a good opportunity to give DC another try. I read them a little in the 90s and pretty much not at all in the 00s. |

That would be absurd enough for me to stop reading this arc. It'd be funny if Superman accidentally kills him. |

Well obviously, and all jokes about Batman "willing himself through time" aside, Batman cannot beat Supes physically. But I do wonder if he's going to pull something else out of his butt, like threatening to expose a secret or something. And I could also actually see him having kryptonite! lol Guaranteed, though, that whatever happens, Batman will earn Supes respect. Unlike GL. |

Kryptonite, one of the rarest substances in the universe that you can apparently buy at the local convenience store. One planet exploding billions of miles from earth and yet it seems half the fucking rocks landed here. What a joke. |

Well, ya see... just as Superman followed the, uh.... cosmic currents to earth, a lot of the pieces of debris also, uh... followed the same path... or something. And this accounts for the, er, large amounts of kryptonite. Except that people almost never use it against Supes, because... Um. You see where I'm going with this? It all makes perfect sense, really... -DC Writers |

I agree, there should be little or no kryptonite. It should be impossible to find. But I do have to wonder, how the fuck did Supes folks live on a planet made of stuff toxic to them? Kryptonite has become this lame ass catch all plot device for needing to stop a super hero that has had his powers over written to the point of ridiculousness (at times). |
