My understanding Big Will (and now I am actually being serious) is that it only became toxic to them after being exposed to the yellow sun. I always assumed the original idea behind it (which wasn't very scientific) was that since they didn't have superpowers on their homeworld, going back to it (even a small piece) took their powers away. Kryptonite wasn't meant to be the lame plot devise it has become. It was meant to show that Supes, despite all his power, isn't inviincible. He has a "weakness" just like all of us do. I'm sure it was meant to make him more relatable. And it's an old, old concept in literature too. Sampson's hair, anyone? |

BigWilliam - I agree, there should be little or no kryptonite. It should be impossible to find. But I do have to wonder, how the fuck did Supes folks live on a planet made of stuff toxic to them? an aids fire...find one....jump in.... |

The Elastic Assassin - tI don't think so. Short as it was, Supes and GL tussled. So, I think _something_ is going to go down between Supes and Bats too. |

What are you one of those people that cannot see a way to beat Supes other than using some weak ass excuse? Or do you think that the way Supes has been written over the years makes sense? Perhaps you can get out of your Superman underoos and put on some big boy pants long enough to see bad writing for what it is. |

what I'M saying it that wihtout kryptonite super man is an unstoppable frate trane.....no can defend.....is this what you want?.......or you depower him...which has been tried and sucks balls.......so you have kryptonite.... no bats won;t have any, he will probably talk to him for a bit and then flash bomb his ass supes will close regardless and GL will get back into the fight....at which point bats will calm the situation and that will all fuck...... |

Sampson's hair? C'mon, it's obviously an Achilles' heel. :) I think K became toxic to Kryptonians because of the planet's destruction. The fragments got irradiated or some shit. At least, that's what I recall from one of the numerous origin stories. |

He can be beaten other ways. Magic, telepathy, illusions. Put him inside a bubble that will explode on contact and then put Lois and Jimmy inside with him. Sure he can get out, they will be killed. Let's see how he deals with that. Trap him in a this or that choice, yes you can save Metropolis or you can save Paris, but not both. Assault him on an emotional level. He is powered by a specific wave length of radiation and de-powered by a different wave length. That is something bad guys can use effectively. All of those are much better than some rare, yet strangely easy to find, magic rock. The magic rock was created by writers that cannot think so they take a cheap way out. If kryptonite exists it should be dam near impossible to find, so when someone does have it, it's a big deal. Instead every villain and their brother, along with Bats and who knows how many heros have it just lying around. |

Big Will, Batman has created synthetic Krytonite in the past DC universe. Which would help to explain why there would be more Krytonite than there should be. In past storyline, it seems that DC has gone away from using the Krytonite as much. Probably because like you said, it's stupid that there is so much of it. As for there being toxic stuff on Kryton, well we have naturally toxic stuff on Earth. Uranium, toxic gasses etc. |

Yes but it is a very small percentage of the total substance of Earth. I have never heard kryptonite referred to as something other than, a rock from krypton. I am glad dc moved away from it, for awhile every issue of Supes I saw had some other bad guy using it against him. |

Yeah, the Smallville show was annoying at first because of all the Krytonite bad guys too. I think DC heard the criticism and has worked on it. That being said, I'd expect Krytonite to be shown early on in this new DC. |

When Superman and Batman collide, there shouldn't be any kryptonite yet. Superman is STILL a hero at heart and he will either realize that Batman is powerless and leave him be or GL will jump in and "save" Batman somehow. |

Dead Again - LOL! I SAY LOL @ Batman needing saving. Agreed. It's not like anyone thinks Batman can beat Superman in a fist fight. He can't. AND BATMAN KNOWS THIS ALSO. So you can bet your sweet Batarass that Batman will only engage if he knows he has something that will work. And you all know he does! |

The Elastic Assassin - what I'M saying it that wihtout kryptonite super man is an unstoppable frate trane.....no can defend.....is this what you want?.......or you depower him...which has been tried and sucks balls.......so you have kryptonite....From what I remember as a kid, Supes powers rely on his energy level. He's like a battery and you can wear him down. So kryptonite isn't the only way to stop him

Good luck with that. The energizer bunny's battery can eventually be worn down too, but it'll outlast any human and most metahumans. Someone like Captain Atom has the ability to drain the energy right out though, rather than take a beating trying to rope-a-dope Supes. |

But Supes can only be worn down at night right? The yellow sun is what gives him powers/recharges him. I liked the first issue. One thing I think about batman is that he's been doing this for awhile, just without the JL. Cuz there is no way he goes through at least 3 Robins in 5 years. Remember in war-games how no one had even seen Bats until he brought the girl out of the school? I think it's like that. He's been doing this for years, but he's been an urban myth the whole time

The Jim Lee art appreciation thread (cool thread, BTW) has a pencil that looks like it comes from the next ish of JL. Batman and Supes are squaring off and there is some type of device laying in the forground that says "Sonic Disrupter" on it. I bet it's from Bats hitting Supes with some kind of sonic attack meant to affect his Super-hearing. I also noticed that Bats seems to have some type of breathing aparatus in his mouth. Gas attack as well? |

paw -Invincible - ^^True, but that was an uprovoked attack on GL. Usually, Supes waits to get smacked up before he does anything. He asks questions first, shoots later. This Superman struck preemtively. Seems this Superman is more hotheaded, at least from the preview posted on the other thread. Batman will win this fight if it becomes one. He is basically JLA Batman against a novice Superman. He has already studied him and his power levels AND thinks he's dangerous, so he'll have a plan. I am expecting kryptonite. |
