... for small game hunting. I want one with good range that can also take out a blue jay from a good distance. Normally I wouldn't kill something that I'm not going to eat. Part of my deal with Mother Earth. But these things are horrible to listen to. <br /><br />I'm just looking for the cheapest or best value rifle that can do the job and is easy to obtain. What do you consider a "good distance"? Up to 100yds, look at 22lr rimfires like the winchester wildcat(made in russia by toz), whick is already tapped to accept a "muzzle break" up to 150, look at a 17hmr, both good for bunny sized game. Else, go a 204 or a 223. 223 is good for anything from hares to goat/small pig. |

I own the Henry Survival rifle listed above(the former AR7) and would not recommend it for a 50 yard shot. It's a neat little toy and gets a bit of attention at the gun range, but a tack driver it is not. I've even tried mounting a scope on it, but it just isn't a very accurate rifle. It will do the trick inside 15 yards, but I rarely even try longer shots with it. My old Cooey 600 and newer Norinco JW-15(I know, not available in US)are both far superior shooters. |

They've rebranded it as the "puma" over here(Australia) for some reason. Does the cooey 600 have a rabbit engraved on the stock or buttplate? |

Yup, the cooey has the rabbit on the stock. I bought it secondhand in the late 80's. It's a great little shooter. I was at the range today and put 400 or so rounds through the JW-15. I love it, it is far more accurate then I am. |
