Jesus "ushered in the Kingdom Of God" (the year of the Lords favor) which deals with individuals salvation and also social justice equally. |

I am not a socialists. I believe the work of the kingdom of God in Christ Jesus is to be carried out by the church, not a national government. With that said. Ron Paul 2012!

TheHawker - I would say the bigger problem is too many Christians are corporatists. Correct. Socialism would be a nice move up for most Christians and most Americans. At least then we would stop having a nearly pathological hatred of the poor and quit acting like every poor person is poor due to a moral failing. |

Benedictus - I am not a socialists. I believe the work of the kingdom of God in Christ Jesus is to be carried out by the church, not a national government. The Gospel will penetrate every speck of the Cosmos as God reconciles all things to Himself. Including government(s). |

Both the left and the right think government is the answer to national problems, they just focus on different problems. The problems they do address they address differently. I tend to prefer some of the lefts focus, but I think the left is just as self serving and anti Christian as the right. The kingdom of God is not of this world, it does not embrace the kingdoms of this world, and it does not use either of their weapons right or left. rev |

Joe Ray - The ethos of the gospels is inherently socialist.I don't agree. I believe he bible is written for the individual to decide to follow or not. Having your money taken by force and redistributed in dysfunctional social programs has nothing to do with following Jesus.

The ethos of the gospel is inherently biased towards selflessness, empathy, compassion and servicing the needs of the poor, oppressed and vulnerable. As is the ethos of socialism. A brief reading of the gospels will quickly confirm that Jesus and God have an inherent bias towards the lowly and poor over the high and powerful. Socialism is the end result of the radical egalitarianism communicated in the New Testament. Christianity was the communism of the ancient world. |

I believe socialism as it is defined in political terms uses the government as the mechanism for all of this caring for the poor. I do not believe this is actually the biblical position. The ideas of socialism are very much in line with biblical living, but within the church, not within government. The church is an alternative empire, one that is actually non violently at war with the empires of the world, whether they be socialist or capitalist. rev |

The ethos of the gospels is akin to libertarian socialism. Conventional socialists have the same ideals and goals as libertarian socialists, except they consider the state can be used as an instrument to attain those ends. |

Joe Ray - The ethos of the gospels is inherently socialist. Within a eucharistic communion of Christians they are called to share all that they have in common, but this says nothing about how the larger culture should be run or what the role of government might be. There is not guarantee that government owning the means of production will bring about a particularly Christian society. As it stands on the ground the real socialists countries give luxury to a few (both in the numerical and generational sense) by building on the backs of the poor and powerless. In other words, they are a great force for human evil in the world. |
