i don't know who the olympian is, but that's the way it was expressed to me, which sends me on a tangent of wondering whether it was sun tsu or musashi who said if you don't know yourself..., but I digress; the following statement was however taken directly of of hybrid's website:

"Our staff includes Hall-of-Fame recipients, regional, national & invitational tournament champions AND an Olympian."

i don't train at the Renzo school either; they are a humble group of guys that in no way need their name denigrated by even a potential association with mine. i've taken a few privates in blacksburg, but thats as far as it goes. i'm may pay 80-120 a month for classes, but i'd have to live in nyc and occasionally bump into matt serra.

if you want, i'll send you my personal information it it will make you feel better about the criticism, I'm in no way hiding. hell, i'd love to have a decent school if only for access to mats and bodies, but never for that price. i'd step up and compete against anyone, student or teacher, within 20lbs of my natural weight-class if i could train 6 months for free if I won. a consolation price could be train for free even if i lost, i'd just have to do all the grunt work.

other than that, i don't have much else to say. i'm willing to fight/compete/be martially artistic if it could win me the chance to train for free. i'm not hiding, so if you want my name just let me know and i will pm you, but if this sounds at all reasonable, lets get to it.

if no, i'm sure it's a business decision and in no way indicative of anyone's confidence in their own skill set, and at least you can call me by my first name when i am critical of your school.

So... just to clarify-

You've never trained at Hybrid Roanoke, but you are basing your incredibly dismissive opinion, which you are airing publicly, on something you've heard from a competitor of theirs?

I hope Dennis Hayes, who is a legitimate Pedro Sauer black belt (who has won tournaments and individual matches before that I have personally seen, and with whom I have rolled myself numerous times) does not take your bait. Instead, I will use this opportunity to speak very highly of Dennis and his program, his students (some of whom are super tough, and all of whom have been nothing but courteous to me), and his facility, which is very nice.

Tarek Moneir is a judo olympian. I don't know how you can argue with facts. He's also a really nice guy who I cared enough about to offer a seminar at my gym (I myself am a judo and BJJ black belt, just to put things into perspective).

If you are unsure of my credentials, or why you should take my advice, you are more than welcome to stop by my gym in Richmond, VA to train with me or my students.

no, I wont "take the bait". you know, you haven't made it until people you don't even know hate on you. I know what I & my gym have done to get where they are.

truth is, he's still quoting someone and their opinion which still causes unnecessary drama.

the highlight however, is the open criticism followed by a request for free training from the very place he criticizes.
