This year we expect a record number of participants of all ages and skill levels. As a result the Ontario Open has teamed up with Hatashita International to run 10 full mat areas.
The introduction of 4 new mat areas at this year’s tournament not only ensures that the tournament will run as scheduled but also allows us to add some exciting new divisions for competitors.
In addition to the divisions we run every year for adults, the 2012 Open will be introducing a Purple Belt Master’s Division.
We are also excited to announce that all kids aged 5-15 will get a chance to participate in NOGI divisions this year. The addition of the NOGI divisions for kids will cause a shift in the usual scheduling. All kids GI divisions will run on the Saturday with the NOGI divisions running on the Sunday.
It is great to see the tournament growing and changing as the BJJ community in Ontario and North America grows as well. That being said, with all the new additions and changes some things will of course be staying the same.
We will still be giving out 7 all expense paid trips to the World IBJJF Jiu Jitsu Championship in California. And hope to send additional athletes to New York for the Pan American Nogi Championships.
Year after year with your support the Ontario Open Jiu Jitsu championship continues to grow and flourish. This year with the support of Hatashita you will see more of the same.
