I'm slowly trying to be more self-sufficient, especially when it comes to home maintenance/repair. Unfortunately, I grew up in a family with a mechanically-retarded father. A recent leaking toilet clusterfuck and the related 5-6 trips to Lowes really opened my eyes to how ill-equipped I am. What's on your list of must-have tools for your home? |

I'm in the same boat dude. Luckily I have a pretty handy father in law that has let me borrow most of the tools I've needed so far. My short list of needs at the moment include: Circular Saw Jigsaw hacksaw assorted hand tools (wrenches, screwdrivers, hammers, etc) cordless drill (I've got a corded drill, I just hate having to get extension cords every time I need it for a quick job) Levels carpenter's and/or framing squares saw horses I'm sure I'm leaving some stuff out, but that's all that pops off the top of my head at the moment. |

In addition to the above: chop saw sander sledge hammer/demo tools shovel rakes gloves wheel barrow pencils Interior & exterior painting supplies (brushes, tarps, buckets etc.) Buckets Chisels There's a ton of things to buy....you just have to start somewhere & keep collecting & caring for the stuff you have. |

How are you all planning on powering your power tools inthe event of a power grid loss? |

ClayK - How are you all planning on powering your power tools inthe event of a power grid loss? That was the first thing I thought of as well. Some old school non-power tools like a hand drill, saw etc are worth having in your stash. |
