I've been wanting to train some Sambo and was excited to hear of a new school opening. I checked out their website http://gcasambo.com/Home_L6OF.html. I saw that the head instructor won multiple World and European Championships in the '80s and was a World Champ Shootfighter. I attempted to verify these claims with a google search and came up with nothing. I then attempted to verfiy the lineage of the head instructors Sambo credentials and was also unable to find anything regarding Vladimir Butokov/Burtokov. I thought this was a bit fishy so I dug a little deeper and found some interesting videos. http://youtu.be/8Sb02qVxXPg http://youtu.be/Xq2yvuNTnvo http://youtu.be/74EvicFwFxY A couple red flags imo that I noticed.... -Dude wearing a purple belt. I thought Sambists only had Red guy and Blue guy. -Most guys that wear BJJ brand gis and blackbelts that are teaching a martial art other than BJJ are usually kind of sketchy. |

Not saying these guys are frauds and I'm sure they are legit Black Belts in whatever other martial arts that they train. I just find the lack of info on the world wide internet a little bit odd. Anyone care to chime in? |

The guy used to have some classes in Waipio about 10 or so years ago. I knew the guy Alan's brother who passed away already. He was a neighbor of mine. I honestly couldn't tell you what his lineage is but I know he's been doing it for quite some time now. I know either Alan's son or nephew trains with Alliance. |

Alan's nephew trains at Alliance. The class on Saturday was fun. Been waiting for Alan to hold something closer to home for the last couple yrs. and Noc's right, he's been doing it for quite some time now. Gotten healthier and now passing it on. Most of the guys involved are military and have stories that most sensationalists won't believe. |

In his bio, this dude just states that he was able to train at several clubs in Russia. He doesnt make any claims that are too outlandish sounding imo. |

meatrokket - In his bio, this dude just states that he was able to train at several clubs in Russia. He doesnt make any claims that are too outlandish sounding imo. Matt Elam travelled to Moscow wityh my good friend Vlad Koulikov for a training camp with Igor Kurinnoy back in 2008. I have had some interaction with matt on line. Seems to be a good guy. |

KyokushinCatch - just had a story about him on hawaii news now my mistake. HNN story was on Matt Elam's Atletika Sambo, not GCA's more on 'Kai' thread |
