Conan was a badd ass back then....just ask Sakuraba Erikson and Mark Kerr were supposed to be the "biggest and baddest" back then also and neither one of these guys wanted anything at all top do with Conan. They BOTH turned down fights with him. |

Even 4000 wrestling matches is a stretch. Did Conan give up from fatigue?

Like I said.... Back then, at that time, many, many, people honestly felt that Marc Kerr and Tom Erikson were the baddest two men on planet earth. Yes, they were offered fights with Marcus......and what do they do? They come up with some kind of retarded pay day..... Kerr was rumored to demand $400,000......OMG, that's like a top fighter today demanding $2,000,000........it's just another way of a fighter saying "I do NOT wanna fight this guy"...... And yes, Kimo and Ken Shamrock also turned down fights with Silveira.......Hell, as I remember.....they finally offered a fight to Maurice Smith who took the fight, no problem..... When he was in fight shape, Mo would fight ANYBODY..... Just ask an in his ultimate prime Mark Coleman about Smith.... |

the beast was for a while the BEST. between the mustache and wwf wrestling trunks and his wrestling shoes how could anyone stop him? his stand up game was so lame back then. but in actuality he probably just took fights between coaching wrestling (im assuming he coached back then) just imagine him as your hs wrestling coach |

Severn hit a modified arm triangle on Conan. Erikson woulda F'ed Conan up something fierce. Kerr too. |

skooter - Like I said.... When did Shamrock turn down a fight with Conan? Never heard that. Ken would have kicked his ass IMO, same with Kerr and Erickson. I was happy when Severn won this fight. It was a big deal at the time, and it was a submission win for Severn which was a bit surprising. |

Conan's only significant win in MMA was Mo Smith. |

Carlson gracie said at one point : Face Punch. Black belt? Brown Belt. Face Punch. Brown belt? Purple belt. Face punch. Purple belt? Blue belt. Face punch. Blue belt? White belt. Those elbows in the face were nasty! |

I was stunned at how easily Severn gave away his neck in this fight on shots this far into his career. Conan nearly finished him twice with it IIRC. You'd think he would have learned his lesson after Shamrock nearly crushed his adam's apple and Severn couldn't swallow for 2 weeks. |

severn did the same move to escape kens 1st guillotine that he did to conan, but he got conans back with it, and ken was too fast/aware.... |

Here's an interesting back story to this fight. Then UFC matchmaker and former matchmaker for the by then defunct Extreme Fighting, John Perreti, brought Dan Severn back to the UFC as a late replacement opponent for Pedro Rizzo. Rizzo beat Severn pretty quickly with powerful leg kicks, and later in the show, John Perreti came out and gave this interview where he trash talked Dan Severn, and said something to the effect of that Dan Severn was never that good a fighter. I thought that it was pretty unprofessional for Perreti to trash talk Dan Severn, especially since Dan Severn came in as a late replacement to save the ppv show. One would have thought that Perreti would have appreciated this, but the thanks Dan got was for John Perreti to disrespect him in a live interview. Marcus "Conan" Silveira was the first heavyweight champion of Extreme Fighting (which was an early competitor to the UFC which ran 4 ppvs before going out of business/this is NOT the same promotion as World Extreme Fighting which is where the video that started this thread is from). When Conan Silveira was the heavyweight champion of Extreme Fighting John Perreti was all over Conan Silveira's jock about how great a fighter he was (well, until he lost to Maurice Smith). Given Perreti's praise for Conan Silveira and trash talking of Dan Severn it was poetic justice when Dan Severn got a submission victory over Conan Silveira. |
