This question is mainly for the aikido guys but if anybody knows, I'd appreciate it.

So what are the 3-4 core techniques of aikido? The basic techniques you'd teach to a newbie first, or in general the techniques that "work" the best.

If I was to teach BJJ to somebody, I'd show upa mount escape, scissor sweep and armbar from the guard. What are aikido equivalents of those?

Ikkyo, Nikkyo, Sankyo & Yonkyo --The 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th "principles" of Aikido.

They introduce four basic ways to manipulate the wrist.

From a mechanical standpoint, you could say they are the "basics" of Aikido, although the true essence of Aikido -and that which separates it from Jujutsu styles-- is the application of "Aiki" to these same more or less standard Jujutsu techniques.
