How is it cool to post someone else's copywritten material like this, on a public forum, but not be able to post pirated fights. Because, it's "just comics?" You guys are all fucking douches. Buy the comic and support the creators. Kirkman may make more money than most of us indy guys, but he's not exactly Bill Gates.

If I find a series I like, I usually buy the graphic novel for my in laws. I have too many comics in storage and have no more room to put them anywhere. |

White is just being ants at a picnic because if you notice he says "us" in reference to himself being an independent comic creator. Perhaps he's just angry because nobody buys his book. Maybe I'd he posts his stuff and I like it I would be more than happy to purchase

Or maybe I respect intellectual property rights; it's not too hard a concept to grasp. Why do we only post segments of an interview or an article - as opposed to the complete article? Why are you not allowed to post links to copywritten broadcasts? Is it because it's copywritten - or because you think you might get caught? Whether I make millions of dollars or one dollar as a comic creator is beside the point. Aside from publishing costs, every dollar a creator-owned comic makes goes to the creator(s). You're not some kind of Robin Hood stealing from Zuffa, Disney/Marvel, DC/Warner Bros - you're stealing from the little guy. And it's great if you really do buy Kirkman's comics. But, do you honestly think [all] the people reading threads like this bought the issues they're reading? Do you think you're helping the creator - whose work you apparently love - to keep being able to produce his work, by freely distributing it sans his permission? I'm not being negative, I'm being real. Pirating an indy comic is like spitting directly in the creator's face; it's far from a victimless crime. This is a dude that worked his ass off to get to where he is; investing his time, money, gambling on himself and his talent.

Is it because it's copywritten - or because you think you might get caught?First of all, I can only speak for myself and I buy most of Kirkmans series. Walking Dead, Thief of Thieves and Invincible. I support comics and creators with my hard earned money. Nobody especially in the comic community claims to "stick it to the man" by downloading comics. We understand the importance of supporting artists and creators. For gods sake they are $2.99, most everyone can afford that. If anything this really does creat awareness about certain series, it's next to impossible to keep track of everything that comes out. If I see something on here that interests me I will go out and buy in floppy or trade. Lastly, Image comics is the #4 comic company. They are far from "indy", the thing that separates them is the creators have control of their own property with out Image owning it. You new to settle down and understand that most of this is about awareness and not total pirating.

white, I'll tell you the honest truth. I have bought some comics because of first seeing them "illegally" posted online, but I have also just read a bunch for free. I can guarantee that they never would have gotten my money anyway, in most of those cases. Right or wrong, I really don't consider it any different from getting comics from the library, many of which carry a bunch of trades. And I do that too. |

I'm obviously not just talking to you; the distributing bit would be directed at the OP. Also, if it were just about awareness, it wouldn't be necessary to post the entire comic. The OP could just as easily posted an out-of-sequence sampling to accomplish that. I know Image's market share, and what books they put out. A lot of my friends and associates work with Kirkman specifically - and Image in general. It's very hard to make a living as an indy comic artist or writer, even when you're well thought of by peers and fans. Most of us don't get rich, and have to juggle our love with 9-5 jobs, families, and the like. Kirkman for example published Battle Pope while being largely supported by his wife. Personally, I havent been able to seriously write since my daughter was born last year. The editor for my one (PopGun Anthology) Image book, Mark Andrew Smith works as an ESL teacher in Phuket (sp?), Thailand. Many of the indy artists work as illustrators, and graphic designers to help pay the bills. Pirate all you want, but at the very least, please don't pirate the Indies. My usage of "douche" may have been harsh, but I stand by the spirit of my post.

The OP could just as easily posted an out-of-sequence sampling to accomplish that. I truly do get what you're saying and respect you for following your dreams. Using Kirkman really isn't a good example though, the guy is going have 2 hit series on AMC, video games, actions figures, t shirts all this stuff is making him money. I am most definitely sympathetic to having to juggle your passion with the 9-5, i'd love nothing more than to quit my job and open a movie store or maintain peoples aquariums for them. I have made that choice to stick with the job that pays and maybe one day i'll get to do those things. You can't go around yelling at society because you made the decision to get into an industry that you struggle for a long time before you do succeed. Not alot of people have their cake and eat it to. I can tell you that alot of the stuff that Dead Again posts has caused me to go out and purchase not only the stuff I read, but the creators and aritists other work. Not to mention, you may not know peoples situations. I was talking to someone on the NQOTD forums and he said all the local comic book shops shut down. So what option is there? mail order and pay for shipping plus the books, or buy the digitals, or read them online and if you like them buy the trade when it comes out. As long as people are reading and buying I'm okay with what DA does. Believe me when I tell you that if your stuff was posted on here and I liked it, it would buy it the next wednesday I went to the shop. I know there are alot of people out there and on here that would do the same. I feel that the smaller group of people would be the ones that didn't buy than the ones that did. In all honesty, I have a hard time believing this causes more harm than good. Having the comics on here creates conversation, conversation turns into buzz and then the buzz turns into the next big thing. How many books, comics and novels sit around for a few years and then boom people start talking about it on the internet and it's the next big thing. |

The OP could just as easily posted an out-of-sequence sampling to accomplish that. I'll tell you that I thought long and hard about posting Walking Dead because it is a series I want to see remain successful. I have every trade of it because I would rather have the printed version of my favorites than a digital copy. I decided to post Walking Dead after seeing many posts on other threads from members here who said they would buy a book after reading it on here. Also, because this isn't a large forum for comic book readers, I felt that Walking Dead posted on here would be an introduction to more new readers than current readers. Therefore my opinion is that the end number would be an increase of fans for Walking Dead rather tha a decrease. Obviously this is opinion based because I can't generate numbers to back it up. I also previously read this article here: Piracy Can Boost Book Sales Tremendously | TorrentFreakI do understand where you are coming from, and have given some thought to changing up from posting ongoing series to just posting limited series already completed. I also, do check to see what sales figures are for comics on a monthly basis. My overall opinion on posting comics here is that it's overall more helpful tha hurtful. As an example, the mega-events like Fear Itself has a ton of tie-ins that people wouldn't normally read but getting some people exposed to them here might help the company. Also, I've seen a lot of people say that reading comics here has brought them back to being a fan again. I know that digital comics did that for me, because I'm always travelling, and sometimes I'm in different countries, it became hard to stay current with comics. I hadn't picked one up in many years until around the time I started posting here. |

Reading the Thanos Imperative here got me back into collecting after a 8 year hiatus. I purchase over 15 series a month and have a huge penis. FYI. |
