That is my favourite kick! He did it perfectly! Jumping back from a close distance while your opponents moves towards you. A very useful technic that is way under used, along with the "Brazilian kick" (faint low, go high in a single motion, in a downward angle) I nail it frequently on everybody, armature and even pros! All respect to the great Joe Rogan (who also feels that this is a useful technique), but he teaches this kick kicking from the side more then necessary. A classic "horse type of kick" (like in the clip) is far mor effective, more powerful and faster.

Back in the day, I had just finished practicing that kick on the heavy bag and this guy (who is a top belt in Uechi-ryu now) came into the practice room and challenged me to spar, rather aggressively. He jumped up in the air like some kind of Kwai Chang Cane (Kung-fu) move. Without even thinking about it I did the same move I had been doing on the heavy bag. He went down like a rock.
