Now this is how you modernize the Jiu Jitsu guard for the fight game! This guy used a nice variation of 50/50 and a variation of Cyborg’s Tornado guard really well against a veteran like Clementi. I think he’s only 20 years old; it’s going to fun to watch him progress in the next couple of years. His fight with Clementi: http://youtu.be/E9DjCejf84E Little mini Doc from bjjhacks.com of him and some other dude travel to Rio for some training and competition: http://youtu.be/ajHdlrcM8f0 Check out this super quick guard pull to DLR to back take @1:02 in this highlight: http://youtu.be/CDeRgj6kM34 |

He's very exciting to watch but it's also a bit scary the bad positions he puts himself in when trying for the sub. He won't have a long career if he fights like that against high level opponents. |

Somewhat true, he puts himself in "bad" positions. However he's consistenly attacking his opponents base not allowing them to strike at full potential. As a bjj enthusiast I was pretty stoked watching his fight with Clementi. |

He is exciting, i love that he gets the submissions. He is like an old school Gracie Jiu Jitsu fighter using the "new School" BJJ. Love it.! |

I think his game is pretty positionally sound. He is constantly attacking either posture or base, and threatening with subs or sweeps/back takes all the time. Seems a whole lot better than hugging someone in closed guard, if you ask me - provided you are as good at these positions as he is, obviously. |

Great guy, savage leglock game. Stone cold killer in comps. Broke (or at least popped) three legs in Brazil in a comp bcs guys refused to tap to the gringo. Lovely guy though, was genuinely concerned for his opponents. He told me he started training BJJ at age 11. Motherfucker. |

He's had many fun fights in Bellator. He vs. Phillipe Nover is good as well as his loss to the Missouri wrestling kid who beat Eddie Alvarez. Both readily available online and fun to watch. |

He seemed to do a pretty good job of using his butt to block the path to his face when he was inverted, but if you do a lot of that guys are going to game plan for it and your going to suffer a devastating ko every now and then. |

he is 15-2. Id say his guard works just fine. People just dont think modern bjj works in mma so they are skeptical. I was amazed at how well he was able to protect himself by being offensive. Clementi couldnt punch anything but the butt or ribs and even then he had to worry about sweeps and his feet. Great job by Held. |

what is great about Marcin Held is that he is totally a BJJ fighter. His standup is not good nor are his takedowns. But his BJJ is solid and he totally believes in it.! |

I sincerely hope his stand up gets worse and his ground game gets better and better so that we can see more one style specialists.

The guy is 20 and already has world class BJJ. I'm sure he has time to develop respectable striking as well. What's funny is how he manages to get fights to the ground even without particularly strong wrestling. He just dives and rolls into leg locks, which, if not immediately effective as a takedown, often incentivizes guys to follow him down to the mat anyway in order to defend. |
