I am alone too, but it's not that bad. Watching football and enjoying the day off from work. At least you don't have to go work a crazy overnight or 4am black Friday shift. Definitely do not miss those days!

I hope all of you have a fun-filled, great holiday with your families.

I don't look forward to the holiday season these days because i tend to dwell on what i've lost because of my past mistakes. It just feels a little more lonely and i miss having a family.

Don't take what you have for granted.

Lots of selfish people reflect on their past mistakes today. Burns doesn't it. Those of us who put our families first get to enjoy the holidays. You don't. That's how it works bud. Hang in there and try to learn from the burning pain. Phone Post

Fugazi -

I've tried getting ahold of my daughters but to no avail, so i left them texts just letting them know i love them and to remember how special they both are........not going to call parents, tho.

I know that i embarass them and they probably wish i didn't exist so they wouldn't have to explain how they managed to have a son like me.

Oh well....i will always love them.

2nd paragraph, gotta work on that type of thinking. Shame is a feeling that fuels addiction. Are you in an active, organized program, or winging it?

Oppsicrappedmypants -  Op sounds like he fucked family over an is now looking for sympathy.

None here busdy Phone Post

He doesn't deserve ANY sympathy? A guy who fucked up and is trying to turn it around?

I'll be the first to say that Fugazi is as nutty as a fruitcake with some of the things he believes. But if he is truly trying to take a different road then he does deserve sympathy. Nobody's perfect (although I'm about as close as you come!) and that includes you.

On the flip side, I can totally understand why his family may be tired of emotionally investing in him when he's let them down in the past and now want to keep their distance. It's a defense mechanism, pure and simple. I suspect he already knows that it will take years to gain back any credibility he had with them, if ever. But understanding why they're cold shouldering him doesn't mean it will, or should, hurt less when they do it. That's not how humans are wired.

Fugazi, you've got your life and you have at least the opportunity to improve your relationships. That's a fair amount to be thankful for. So happy thanksgiving you loon.

D3structo - Where's the family at? Parents, siblings?

Happy Thanksgiving either way.

My bro lives in Arizona, i'm in Michigan.

Neither of my parents/step-parents called and invited me to dinner. Both live fairly local. I'm not sure if I mean much to either anymore.

What bothers me the most is that my teen daughters haven't called or even texted a message to me. That one hurts the most.

I will try to get ahold of them later if i don't hear anything and let them know how much i love them.....

I really am trying not to feel sorry for myself. I've burned a lot of bridges.

*raises a toast to my fellow OGers who are alone too*

Cheers my friend I'm canadian but am spending thanksgiving in Maine with the wife and her family. I'm not mr social but can't complain.

If I was you I would call them you only live once so screw it be the bigger person and call, just my opinion.

Happy thanksgiving man! Phone Post

Nope, he doesn't. This most likely is his 11000th time saying this exact thing. His family is obviously tired of hearing it and I fully understand why. To call an addict a liar is to repeat one's self. Now if Fuz wants to get some sobriety time under his belt to show everyone he is serious then thats a completely diferent story. But he knows as well as I do what the score is. Announcing your done doesn't cut it anymore.

Don't get me wrong. I have nothing against Fuz personally. I just deal with addiction on a daily basis as a part of my career choice. I hear the same stuff from every single addict and it never changes. If Fuz posts in a year that he has a year of sobriety under his belt, he will have no bigger supporter than myself. I would easily drop everything I was doing to help out someone with that type of dedication to sobriety. But Fuz ain't there yet although I hope he does get there one day.

I've been invited to 2 Thanksgiving dinners because people heard I was spending it alone. I'm not really into turkey dinners, and not that close with my family. It's great having a 4 day weekend though.

Oh and I also was alone for thanksgiving. I did go visit my mom in a nursing home but it didn't go well because she wanted to go back to her home but with her condition I'm not capable of taking care of her that a skilled nursing staff can. She threatened to never talk to me again etc. But I can only follow the doctors orders. Rough thanksgiving for me. I did have a couple friend's invite me to their family's thanksgiving which was really generous but I didn't go. One friend brought me over a home cooked meal to bring it to my mom.

After decades of not getting the whole family thing my mom preached to me, this tragic time in my life has brought home to me how much love my family has for each other and how important family is.

Nope. As much as I feel about as meaningless as i ever have, i'm not going down that road again.

Thanks for your obvious concern though, fren.

Happy Thanksgiving.....seriously

Yeah you too. I was one of the dipshits calling around looking for you trying to save your life. It was days after that I found out it was all a troll reading Fightsport. The Josh Barnett references and all. Forgive me if I am jaded now.
