Great sweep Master Shen! I used a very similar version to escape pins in judo but your video has some amazing details and I was not using my elbow to lift.

Voted up!

That video is great! Saw a few nice variations...and of course a few things I thought were "new developments". :) Phone Post

^ Well, relatively speaking, every sweep/reversal is harder to pull off on a guy who is significantly heavier. All other factors being equal, the greater the weight disparity, the more difficult it is.

Having said that... similar type moves where you take your opponent to the (left) side, certainly tend to be more "big guy moves". However, this particular version, where your roll your opponent in the direction of your head, offers a LOT of leverage and I would not classify it as a "big guy move".

Look... I really don't like to speak negative about anyone, but Oda has been coppin' sh!t from my Youtube for YEARS!

Actually, I do love those videos. Watched them many times.

That particular version is also taught in "Best Judo", IIRC.

It was mentioned that this isnt entirely relevant nogi. I do a very similar bridge quite often nogi. I put the far side arm inside his head, just like the video, and try to almost bait them into going for an arm triangle. I use the back of my elbow to push the back of their head down close to the mat to prevent the arm triangle. The rest of the escape is the same with the inside arm. As I bridge and push with the inside arm on the hip I also use the arm/elbow on their head to continue pushing their head underneath them. Hopefully this makes sense as it works well for me. Yeah make sense. Only part was the far arm. What do you do with the hand? Are you gripping anything? Phone Post

Sorry it took a few days, when you asked I actually had to go try it a few times to make sure I could answer. It's technically a bit different, obviously, without the belt grab. When I reach over the head with the far arm I reach as far as I can, just as Perry does, but I cup the far side of the opponent around the lats and push the head down with the elbow. I feel like when you have the belt you don't need to move as quickly but no-gi the room for error is smaller. When I reach over the head I do it with more of a bridge into them than with the gi in order to get more of a reaction to make the finish easier.

Thank you!    So when you reach for the lat your bridging at the same time. Or you already have your grips in position and then you bridge?

Usually bridging, depends how big opponent is. Im only about 150 lbs and have hit it gi and nogi on guys under probably 220ish. If theyre smaller I can do it pretty much just like the video, if bigger I need more of a reaction from whomever Im doing it to so I bridge harder as Im reaching for lat. Phone Post

Thanks for the insight. I'm still working out the kinks but I love the reversal.
