Homeowner's insurance is always a fucking shot in the dark. The two most popular HOI companies are known POS' that will do everything possible to keep you in a state of "fucked-up, not knowing what tomorrows gonna bring, checking the mailbox four times a day from Monday thru Saturday praying an insurance check will be in there." Trust me, I live in Florida. My Aunt lost her house in/on Pensacola Beach, FL, in hurricane Wilma a few years back. and, after mortgaging another house to live in for a couple fuckin' years while the insurance company dicked my family around, finally had to sue in order to get the money they paid into for decades. They just moved into the house they finished rebuilding at the beginning of this year. I believe Wilma was, what, 2005? '04? Point being: Homeowner's insurance can be ridiculous to deal with. Glad my house is paid off... Dennis Hallman and his family are in my prayers and thoughts. I have two daughters ages 4 and 5 and my wife has boxes of quality clothing in 4T sizes. I'm going to call her right now and see if we can send it their way ASAP. I will put together any type of money I can as well. Very grateful to hear that the family was not inside the home. Donations will be made & the Hallman family will be in my thoughts and prayers.

Ryan Black - Homeowner's insurance is always a fucking shot in the dark. So true, the POS part about the ins companies. But it's also a game in which the ins companies' strategies are telegraphed, fairly predictable and easily countered. Yeah, they do try to delay in order to make the client desperate enough to take a lowball settlement. It's big bank take little bank. If a client can secure a low interest loan (there are a few non-predatory companies who will use the forthcoming settlement as collateral), he can counter this effort by sitting chill and ignoring these offers. Another thing is to retain the right attorney, a litigation specialist who isn't afraid to take it to trial and has a reputation for being a good trial attorney. Ins companies' low payouts depend on lawyers who are pussy (or lazy) and always settle or deal in volume and dgaf, just want to move quickly from settlement to settlement. I know All-State has an Natural Disaster policy (unwritten) of not paying shit unless you take them to trial; but once you're there, they put up a token defense and are quick to settle at close to full price. |

Well said. And without posting a FRAT that would take away from this thread, I will say, I totally understand what you mean in every sense. My Dad just had a main-pipe break in his kitchen and was stuck dealing with the leak, unable to leave his house for more than 2 hours for a couple months, before the insurance company would even send iut an adjuster to estimste the costs... they figure you won't be willing to deal with their bullshit and jump through their hoops. I just spoke to my ex-wife and she is going to put together a big box of size 4T girls clothing for the Hallmans, and I am gonna go out to Ross & TJ Maxx later on and see if I can find some clothing for the rest of the kids. I have about $100 to spend so I should be able to find something for everyone. Also, as someone with experience in construction/interior/exterior design, it would be an honor to volunteer my skills and time in any way possible to help rebuild their home, if under any circumstances things become even tougher on the Hallmans. I really think we could likely organize something like that here on the UG.

would like to see zuffa step up and give him a fight. It would be cool to see him win and build a whole new career off this tragedy. |

Aren't houses like 50 grand in the states. Why doesn't he just buy a new one. He must have saved some money over a career of fighting?

x Anchor x , -31 42 minutes ago The guy is a pro MMA fighter who has no doubt made a decent living to date and who also undoubtably has insurance. While I do feel bad for the huge inconvenience this will put on him and his family, I can't help but think it's a little obnoxious to be asking for donations. There are lots of less fortunate people out there who could actually use cash right now. I do feel terrible for the him and his family and I hope the insurance company doesn't make it any more difficult than they need to. PS: I'm sending this message from my phone while on break at the youth shelter where I work. Donations are always welcome at establishments like this where every bit of funding goes a long way. Just making a point. This. Sucks for the guy but come on. Also a lot of look at me types on here, if you want to make a donation good work but do you need to tell everyone the specifics.

Kublai khan style - x Anchor x , -31 First, I have to say, few fighters out there are making good money. Yes, they are out there, but they are the exception, not the norm. So, to insinuate that he has saved a ton of money and has some means to just recoup the loss is not very accurate, let alone the personal items that are lost. Even if he does have insurance, he will be paid pennies on the dollar for his lost items, and a lot of the items will probably not be covered, but again, that's if he even has insurance. Second, to say that there are more less fortunate people that need the money right now? How the hell do you know that? Whose to say who is fortunate/less fortunate to receive peoples donations in a time of need? Last, "obnoxious to ask for donations"? Clearly you don't have children. I have as much pride as the next person, however, I also have a wife and two kids and if something like this happened and I needed help in supporting them, I would get on my hands and knees and beg the entire world for anything and everything if needed. I would stand on a street corner with a sign to feed my family and I am sure Dennis would too. He is a father of four children trying to put his life back together. How dare you condescend to him while he tries to do that. |

So you felt the need to come on here and shit all over someone's parade? GTFO of here with that shit and YOUR moral high chair. If everyone had your attitude no one would be helped in their time of need. There is ALWAYS going to be someone more in need than the next person, but that doesn't make it right to just do nothing.
You dont know Dennis' situation and you know what, Dennis and his FOUR kids ARE homeless right now. For the MMA community to come together and support people like Frank Edge, Dennis Hallman and others who are in need is a testament to just how great of a community it really is. I dont give a shit what you do or dont believe about this whole situation. All I know is there is a family thats having a pretty shitty holiday season and if I can help in some way, I will. |

Harlem - Besides the fact that Dennis didn't ask for help. We heard about his life-shattering crisis and are responding to a guy who has given to the sport and always shown class. this |

Again, people can donate to whatever cause they like, for a person to say one person or group is more or less deserving of donations for whatever reason is ludicrous. Why do people give to the Red Cross and not your youth shelter, or Peta and not your youth shelter? Or any other charity/cause? The reality is that people can donate wherever they like and this being an MMA forum, they choose to donate to Hallman, who, as it has been pointed out, hasn't asked for this charity, but others have decided to be proactive for a member of the MMA community. And, your so concerned with the youth population, what about his four kids that are now without a house? Just because nobody has ever given to the people you see daily doesn't mean that nobody else is entitled to any sort of help. It sounds like someone else needs to get off their "self righteous moral high chair" and take a look around. |
