Strikeforce's final event will serve as Josh Barnett's final obligation to the promotion.

Sources close to the fighters today told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) that Barnett (31-6 MMA, 2-1 SF) is targeted to meet fellow heavyweight Nandor Guelmino (11-3-1 MMA, 0-0 SF) on the Showtime-televised main card of "Strikeforce: Champions."

The event, which features prelims on Showtime Extreme, takes place Jan. 12 at Chesapeake Energy Arena in Oklahoma City.

It's expected to be Strikeforce's final event.

Guelmino, 36, recently extended his current win streak to seven with a decision victory over Emil Zahariev at a fight card in Slovenia. The Austrian fighter has earned six of his 11 career wins by submission and three by knockout. Notably, he suffered a first-round TKO loss to ProElite vet Andreas Kraniotakes in 2009.

They would give you a top fighter and a bunch of cans to fill up the rest of the card. Besides the UFC on Fox this is likely the last STACKED card you will ever see in MMA. It's a sad day endeed. Guelmino is actually quite well known in Europe. He and his training partner Geri Turek are some of the highest ranked heavyweights in europe and Guelmino is the current WFC Heavyweight champion. But I would agree that he is not very well known over here in the states. Barnett better watches out to not completely embarass himself in front of the US audience...

really big opportunity for him, but I think KJ might be too much for him at this point...

I think this is a fight to determine if they want to bring Couture into the UFC.

Maybe they dont just want to bring him in because of his name, they want to see if he really has what it takes to swim in the shark tank LW div. If he beats Noons that def tells the UFC he can be a UFC LW atleast on the lower/mid level.

If he loses would they still bring him over?
