I should have said score rather than soundtrack. I'd leave out the GTA games since they're just collections of songs. |

I actually think Mass Effect 3 had the most moving and stirring score of the series.

AlexanderTheGOAT - Came here to say Mass effect 1 I loved this soundtrack too. I was living in a tiny apartment at the time and had to wear headphones. It made a very brief appearance in ME2 and I found it so moving. I think the original Halo soundtrack is one that will always stick in my mind too. I think it made the game feel more epic that it actually was... which was pretty epic. |

Mass effect games definetley, the first one's title music is so relaxing it puts me to sleep and the galaxy map music blew me away, and theres a great metal remix of the second's suicide mission instrumental.

Good call on Journey. That's the only one that stands out for me recently. Many modern games have movie-type orchestral soundtracks but most I find are pretty generic and instantly forgettable. For example I can't remember a single melodic motif from the Mass Effect soundtrack and I spent tens of hours playing those games. I'll have to check out the Tenchu soundtrack again. I remember it sounding very authentic (to me at least) but that's all I can recall now. |

the Last ninja 1 or 2 on the C64. ends discussion. problem is most of you guys have a very short history of gaming so you dont know many great soundtracks. you hear somethign cool like darksiders 2 or mass effect or halo and you think it is the best ever. granted some songs are great, like a song on darksiders 2 or the end song of mass effect 2. but that is only 1 song. the last ninja 1 or 2 on the c64 has so many great songs it is just mindboggling that it was even possible for that time. also the last ninja music is the most remixed gaming music ever. there 1000s of remixes of songs of those 2 games. some very good, some not. but if a gaming soundtrack can still influence people of today that means you created really something very special. this is a really great remix http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fi8Cce46hGo |

Mass Effect wasn't orchestral, it was mostly synth stuff like Blade Runner or (original) Tron. |
