Ben Kerin of WrestlingNewsSource.com on Dec 04 2012 WWE announced at tonight’s SmackDown tapings from North Charleston, South Carolina that WWE Champion CM Punk will not defend against Ryback at the upcoming TLC pay-per-view due to "emergency" knee surgery today. The match will now see Ryback team with Kane and Daniel Bryan to face Dean Ambrose, Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns (The Sheild) in a six-man match.

RIP Shield. A once promising invasion squashed before their time.

Now is the perfect time to bring Brock in or possibly more NXT guys. It'd suck if they make the Shield lose their first official match. Then again it is WWE we're talking about here.

Perfect time for Ryback to turn heel, with super cena looking on getting a big push and rock coming back its the best way to keep him in the main card

I think it's time for hero to get called up and interfere in the match helping the shield get the win Therefore it keeps everyone looking strong and is what they were probably going to have the shield do to the punk match anyway

How about Punk does a run in to give The Shield the win? Then he can say he always repays his debts.

Make The Rock run in and help The Shield get the win. Or have pretty much the entire NXT roster come out and help them.

Perfect time to have Brock run in and reveal Heyman as the master mind behind the Shield. |

I'm sure the Shield will do well without winning. If this was The Shield vs Ryback I would be worried, but with Kane and Bryan in there, if The Shield is able to hold their own they will still be over imo. |

Is the Punk surgery legit or an angle? Could be a way to keep belt on him without taking more steam away from Ryback just yet?

Could be, that would explain having The Shield attack Team Hell No in recent weeks (to give some meaning to the fight) I doubt it though, taking your World Champ and 2nd biggest draw off of a card when you've already announced the match and replacing it with a Raw main event type match is not likely to be good for ppv buys. |

SamboMMA -
Could be that he initially hired them to make sure Punk stayed champ, so he could personally beat him for the belt. The fact that Reigns is related to The Rock would add credibility to it.

Well there was that bit where Rikishi ran over Austin. What a let down that was. 'I did it, for da Rock.' |
