I'm not republican, I am conservative though. I'm pretty libertarian and I'm an atheist. Anyway, everyone knows the stereotypical republican is Christian. However, I think there is a demographic shift happening in that party specifically with younger generations. I think that the majority of Repubs are Christian but they're dying off and we're seeing less emphasis on "Christian values" (within this group) intertwined with other conservative ideas. Who here is a Repub and an atheist or Agnostic?

The hardcore Christian element in the Republican party is the reason they are losing touch with the country on social issues. And really shouldn't be brought up at all. Religion is supposed to be kept separate from Government. So stop trying to pass laws based on what is said in the bible. Look at all the religious-based faux pas the Teabillies committed leading up the election. |

How sick are you of the religious babble associated with the hardcore Christian right? Do you find yourself having to explain your position to people so they don't automatically associate you with those aforementioned republicans that have become the face of the party?

I'm kind of an in-betweener. I am solidly agnostic, and I lean conservative on most issues, but I do not vote Republican. I usually vote Independant or Libertarian, depending on the candidate. In my opinion, there are a lot of folks who are a) non-religious, b) conservative on issues of fiscal policy and scope of governemnt, c) "liberal", or at least civil-libertarians on social issues such as gay marriage, and c) completely without a viable choice of political party. I mean really, what do you do? These days, both parties are big-government parties, both parties are big-spender parties, and both parties try to force you into a box of either being an arch-theologist or a screaming statist. Either way it's not good. Where do you turn if you just want the government to stick to the constitution, make sound financial choices, and let free men and women make their own free choices about their lives? |

I'm agnostic and don't like religion making its way into politics. I vote Repub and would consider myself a moderate Republican. But I hate partisanship and will back the dems and Obama if I agree with a certain policy or point they are trying to make. I think having Christian values is good to an extent. But the overly religious or those who force it on others I don't care for at all. In saying that, I also have a problem with the PC douches that try to get the word Christmas banned from every aspect of our lives.

A major issue is that The Republican Party ("conservatives") is no longer fiscally conservative and is largely manipulated by the religious for their own agenda.
