AlexanderTheGOAT -Utah get me two - Atheist log cabin Repbulican. It's weird, and I'm basically constantly disappointed with my party. There we go!! How sick are you of the religious babble associated with the hardcore Christian right? Do you find yourself having to explain your position to people so they don't automatically associate you with those aforementioned republicans that have become the face of the party? It's a constant among my educated, liberal friends. But what can I say? They're all pussies, anyway. |

Rouge Mod -Ya I think that's irrelevant, it's important to keep them separate regardless.Zilla2000 - The seperation of church and state was intended to keep the state out of the church, not the church out of the state.

Another Republican atheist checking in. I dobn't really care about gay marriage but if I have to make a choice yes or no it would probably be no. MJ should be legal. Yes, to death penalty. |

I'm not talking about having priest in office. I'm just meaning the open practice of Christianity by our nations leaders and using Christian beliefs to mold and shape our original laws. One nation under God. |

Harlem -Utah get me two - Atheist log cabin Repbulican. It's weird, and I'm basically constantly disappointed with my party.Log Cabin? My old teacher Stordahl is one of those. What defines it? A member of the LGBT community (although I barely crack that) that is Republican. It's weird. All these uber-Christian, gay-hating white trash rednecks in the same political party. Although I haven't voted for a Republican presidential candidate in my life (would have voted for Dole, but was in high school). |

One nation under God. "One nation under God" was added in the 1950's, an extremist reaction during the Red Scare, away from communism and atheism. It doesn't have a thing to do with "our original laws", toolbox. Take a 101-level history class, bonehead. |

One nation under God.There's nothing wrong with that to an extent. I fully expect any politician to support beliefs based on their own. The problem is when the beliefs are rooted solely in religious dogma rather then something more applicable to nonbelievers (thou shall not kill, steal ect.).

Chawkins - I'm kind of an in-betweener. Most of this applies to me. I am agnostic with a STRONG lean towards atheism. I am a registered Republican, and usually vote Republican, however i do cross the line from time to time. Definately a fiscal conservative and on social issue i lean liberal. Really though, i vote Republican because i find the fiscal areas to be more important, but if there were a viable Libertarian candidate i would probably vote that way. Also, I FULLY support the idea of a complete overhaul of the Constitution every 100 years or so. I mean our founding fathers were great men in their time, but just like man today they were not without error and many held sway for reasons other than their intellect. Following the ideals of a group of wealthy, white, men from over 200 years ago seems a bit archaic. |

pm1964 - I am agnostic, and I vote mostly Repub, but as I have detailed on a number of other threads, I have some stances that most people consider to be liberal (for example, I think gay marriage is fine, I think mj should be legal, I am against the death penalty, I think we have to find a way to allow much eaasier immigration for peple who want to come here to work, etc.). This also sounds like me....other than i want more death penalty and i want it to be carried out sooner. |

One nation under God. Just don't use scripture from the bible as a reason to pass laws, especially when it comes to personal freedoms and choices |

My death penalty stance comes from seeing how many people on death row are eventually exonerated, and knowing that there are certainly innocent people who have been put to death. There is not much worse a society can do in my opinion. |

pm1964 -Well if they make a mistake on the death penalty, they would still make a mistake on life in prison. Some say that is even worse. So the person wrongfully convicted is still fucked.Rantuckjr -pm1964 - I am agnostic, and I vote mostly Repub, but as I have detailed on a number of other threads, I have some stances that most people consider to be liberal (for example, I think gay marriage is fine, I think mj should be legal, I am against the death penalty, I think we have to find a way to allow much eaasier immigration for peple who want to come here to work, etc.).

Republicanism and Democratism are nothing but religions, only the blind faithful who are too pathetic to question anything could be aligned with either. So, by definition it is impossible to be a Republican or a Democrat and an atheist. |

Understandable, but if you're in prison, you can continue to try to show your innocence. It is just my opinion, but it seems to me that living in prison is better than being dead. And it seems that most death row inmates fight awfully hard to stay alive. Very few give up their appeal rights and go willingly to the death chamber. |
