How is rousey UFC champ without fighting in UFC?

Nothing would change except some small print if this first fight were a fight for the belt without an existing champ. You have ignored this user.

Simply giving someone a belt really means nothing. You cant start a new division and just give someone a belt. Seems odd. You have ignored this user.

yeah they should have at least waited for the fight and then award it.... seems superficial otherwise and you know the fighter receiving has to be at least a little reluctant as to the manner in which the belt is being presented. they want to earn it too. bad move on UFC's part imo.

if she win's she'll never get to hear "and new UFC champion" bruce will probably say STILL champion.... it just kind of cheapens the whole thing...

But does anyone really care that much? She is clearly the best 135lb female by a huge margin so if anyone deserves to be given a belt to start a division it would be her. You have ignored this user.

From a purely competitive standpoint they could build the division and get people interested in woman's mma if there were a tournament, not just ramming rousey down your throat, I personaly am not a huge fan of her and her cocky attitude so I would love the buildup and learning the backstory of few of the higher level woman fighters. Best or not she has what 4 or 5 fights , pretty shitty to hand her belt she didn't win in ufc Phone Post

No. He defended it in his first UFC bout at UFC 132.

What ru talking about? Ufc 132 against faber was his first defense of the belt he recieved after beating jorgenson. Aldo is the only one not having to fight for his belt besides rousey. Theres a pic somewhere of dom holding both belts after that vicrory at wec 53. Phone Post

Cruz was already the WEC champ. They only did the whole "this is for the UFC belt" thing because his final fight in the WEC happened to occur after the decision to assimilate the WEC into the UFC, it was simply promotional. If Ronda's last fight in strikeforce had happened after the decision was made to move the women over to the UFC then they would have made that fight for the UFC belt as well.
