Former eight division world champion Manny Pacquiao (54-5-2, 38 KO) says he didn't feel a big difference in the punching power of Juan Manuel Marquez, who bulked up with muscle for this past Saturday's fourth fight at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Marquez knocked Pacquiao down in the third and then finished him with a single right hand with only a second remaining in the sixth round.

Pacquiao praises Marquez for landing a good shot in the third and says he never saw the right hand, in the sixth round, coming. He said "no" when asked if there was a significant difference in the punching power of his Mexican rival. "I didn't take enough precaution against an opponent who is not easy as demonstrated in the 42 rounds we've fought since 2004.

I did my best in the ring, but this is the sport of boxing. This is sport. I thought I was in control, and I hit him several times with powerful punches in the final two rounds, but the final punch [that ended the fight] was something I wasn't looking for and I never saw it coming. [In the third round] it was a good punch, but I was able to recover without problems and regain control of the fight. The second shot, I just didn't expect it and I didn't see it," Pacquiao said.

Based on what? Floyd has not faced a legit threat in years. At least Pac has the balls to face a guy who had a real chance to beat him. Pac would have kicked his ass 3-4 years ago.

"The low morale, the sadness, I accept that. This is my job... But the reaction of the Filipinos, the many who cried, especially my family, it really hurts me," he said in an interview on the GMA network. The former eight-division world champion wiped tears from his eyes listening to his wife, Jinkee, make a tearful appeal on camera for her husband, who turns 34 next week, to hang up his gloves.

"When you see your husband get hurt, you cannot even sleep," she said in the interview, conducted in the United States after Saturday's Las Vegas bout. Asked if she wanted her husband to retire from boxing, she said: "You know the answer to that. He knows what I am asking him". Pacquiao's mother Dionisia made a separate appeal on the same station. "I have long asked you son, it is time to retire because you started boxing at such a young age. I always pray that he will stop. I asked God to tell my son to stop," she said. She said she was alarmed by her son's knock-out at the hands of Marquez in the sixth round of their non-title fight Saturday night local time in Las Vegas. The loss stunned a huge Philippine audience watching the fight live on television on Sunday. "I was shocked yesterday.
