McMann said she wasn't ready for a title fight a while back so it doesn't matter if she was or wasn't offered the fight. I think that's a matchup the UFC would like to build up for the future anyway.

Tate also said a few months back she wanted to have another fight before getting another shot at the title. But I understand if the scope of interest had changed with her due to the UFC all of a sudden introducing a women's division since her comments.

I also don't agree with a women's title fight headlining a card. At most, it could be a co-main event to another title fight on a card. I just don't see it being top billing and doing great numbers.

But was that offered as a UFC title fight in a main event?

Cause Tate said she wanted time of or whatever after her last SF fight and McMann has said she wants another fight before Ronda but that was before females in the UFC.

So was McMann actually offered a UFC BW title fight in a main event vs Ronda or are you going off something she said months ago? There is a big difference between saying you want another fight before you fight Ronda in SF and being offered a title fight in the UFC in a main event vs Ronda.

When the WEC guys were handed their belts, were you crying then? Ronda is universally recognized as the 135lbs women's champion. She's the equivalent of the Ring Champion in boxing.

She's ran through all the top competition in her weight class like a buzzsaw.

Strikeforce had the top tier women's talent. She was the champion. Now they're moving over to the UFC... is there going to be another group of women coming from the shadows who can dispute her claim as #1?

Doubtful.

Whether you like her or not, she's the deserving champion.

From a promoter's perspective, there's gotta be a huge difference between integrating a talent pool in to established divisions vs building a divsion around a talent pool vs building a division around a Name. Look at how horrible building a divsion around a Name turned out for EliteXC.

Not that Kimbo and Rowdy are anything alike, in terms of MMA pedigree or skill diversity or...anything, but the danger is there. If you don't have the talent pool to have a 'tournament' to establish hierarchy of the division, or an established divsion that let's you choose match-ups that favor the your interest, you have to feed the Name a couple...highlight-likely...opponents. :)

If Rhonda delivers, you can build a division of potential challengers while giving her a few fights a year, and Sara can take a fight or two to build her name and add to her highlight reel. Add Tate, and you've got the start of a real belt.

This situation is working out perfectly for Zuffa and Sara currently- WMMA and Sara have been getting a lot of publicity since this controversy started, and the attention is helping hype the Rousey-Carmouche fight; Sara is going to get at least one more fight and more exposure before her title shot; Zuffa will have time to build the McMann brand before stating to hype the "Battle of Olympians", and people are already talking about Rousey vs McMann. If this plays out well, all sides stand to benefit; and it is not like Monte and Dana are rookies at this buisness.

Hopefully, Zuffa gets Sara signed soon, gets her on a card and starts building her image.

She said that months ago while still in strikeforce. Strikeforce is dead now and Sara isn't booked for the last show. So the only way she can get a fight under zuffa now is in the ufc and in the rouseyweight division. Admit it, you didn't offer her a UFC fight. Every woman currently with a zuffa contract right now knows if they aren't fighting Rousey they're not fighting in zuffa. Your one person division is a joke.

Agreed. And there will be Sarah M. Who will be there to give her a challenge down the line with something she hasn't faced before. A good (Silver in the Olympics) wrestler that may FORCE Ronda to stand. As well as invictice or even the UFC producing new contenders in the future.

I mean you can't say she ripped through a division in a few fights and its "doubtful" that any challenge will be there soon in the UFC. Just like any of the new weight classes, we need it to take time to flesh out. Maybe even an ultimate fighter WOMEN'S addition with Ronda and Cyborg as coaches for a super fight. Girl may come out of the woodwork now.

Maybe even a good JJ girl who Ronda can take down but then what. I mean, She has definitely exposed girls with very little skill on the ground but what may happen if she goes against someone that is just as good if not better at jujitsu… I mean, her judo is great but if she can't just immediately go to the arm bar the moment she hits the ground, we may see Ronda have to do something she hasn't before to get the win. THAT is what champions do...I'm excited to see her evolve IF she can add to the toolbox. Phone Post
