I've been working for a little while and have some cash, thinking about spending it on a '09 Dodge Challenger SE. The car is $18,300 with around 55,000 miles on it. It has been on sale for about 3 months and Im thinking I can maybe pay straight cash and get it for 18,500 paying all taxes and titles and what not. Looks sharp as hell. I will probably loan some money from my grandparents paying them $10,000 upfront. Im 18 and pretty happy that this could be my first car. what are your thoughts OG.

Pay $5k for a used civic. Save the rest. You are young and don't need this car yet. Girls do not expect you to have a nice ride when you are 18-22.

Invest the money in yourself

I've talked down civics for awhile I just don't like them so thats a no. This is an investment for myself love this car. Im not a guy who likes to spend money on clothing or shoes and what not so Im not very sure what else I would need for myself other than a car, and I want a nice car for my first car.

They look cool but Dodge is probably the last brand I would buy.

I think for american nowadays Ford is the worst to buy, but I think that is all how we were brought up to not like and feel this way

I completely, but respectfully, disagree with this. Ford is at the top of their game right now IMO.

Couple questions/thoughts:

What are your goals for the car? (Daily driver, future project car, etc?)
What made you consider this car in particuar? (Looks, power, etc?)
55k miles on an '09, that's kinda high. Are they highway miles?
Going in with $18k is not a smart move unless you just like giving money away. KBB and NADA value it between $15-18k. If the car has been there for 3 months, there's a reason. If you really want the car, walk in, let them know you've already secured your own financing, and make them play ball with you. I would honestly walk away - physically walk away - from anything over $15,500, which would include TTL.
