My doctor didn't screw up or perform an "unnecessary" procedure. I went to several doctors and he was the first one to tell me that he could get me back in the cage. All the other doctors said that the damage was career ending. The insurance company said that they would cover the procedures. Things got sketchy during the second procedure due to the density of my bones and they had to cut me open a lot more than anticipated. That's where all the blood loss and need for transfusion came in. I was in the hospital recovering for 8 days. I think that when the insurance company saw how long I was in for and how much it was gonna cost they choose to deny the claim. It was only way after the first two surgeries had been done, and I was heading in for the final surgery that I was notified that they were denying the claim. As for the people wondering how I could "ask for a handout" in these tough times: I have humbled myself and reached out to my friends, family, and fans in the community for support. That was not something that was easy to do. I have been a man who handles his business for my whole life and this actually represents an evolution of my soul to humbly admit that I can't do everything on my own. Most fighters are rugged individuals for whom the idea of outside help or needing anything from others is very troubling. I am no different. I struggles for weeks with the idea of reaching out to the community and despite the hate on this and other forums, I am glad that I did. When you open your heart to accept help from others it can be transformative and healing. I am glad that you haven't had to humble yourself and ask for help, I am glad that you are financially secure. If this ever changes, I hope that you won't feel so trapped by your own pride that you fail to ask your fellow man for help because even that small act of asking for help opens us up to the bounty of the universe. I will get back up. Thanks for all the support. |

This is another example of corporate polices assessing the rules as having priority over people, which is the essence of what is wrong with the pervasive corporate mentality that dominates this national landscape. Hopefully Dana and the top notch Zuffa team seethe error in this policy and take steps to remedy it ASAP.

Thread title is definitely misleading. Working on fixing it and clarifying some missing/misconstrued details. Hold tight. |

CindyO -But it is technically correct as the policy is Zuffas. But everyone knows how cool and down to earth Dana and Zuffa is and how much they love their guys. It's clearly the insurance company and not Dana or ZuffaJsteven -Mike Russell -If that's the case he might want to change the thread title, goo luck Connor.

I rhought I read that they covered 50k a year when I first read about it. Maybe it got used up in the first two surgeries. More likely I am misremebering the amount. |

Just to clear up any misconceptions ( at least those i've been pondering about) Is Conor's employer aware of this dispute with the insurance company? What is their (employer's) stance on the matter? |

TheRaider - I rhought I read that they covered 50k a year when I first read about it. Maybe it got used up in the first two surgeries. In total I think Conor mentioned the cost of all surgeries and rehab was in the neighborhood of $250,000, so Zuffa's insurance covered around 86%

sounds like the doctor screwed up...you may want to consider suing him...u say that the dr.'s job is to fight insurance for you...no its not...maybe hes fighting for you to deflect blame from himself
also u said that all the other doctors recommended a different treamtent...usually the overwhelming majority are correct..remember, he gets paid to perform on you so he is incentivized to advise you to go through surgery |

That next $20 toy you buy your kid to keep his concept of fatherly love intact will be Far more helpful to the universe than helping a person who's work you appreciate.mister3mma -Orcus Knows MMA Better Than Goku -Awesome insight- did you donate money or just this?

Often an exacerbation of a pre-existing injury can be covered, if the exacerbation was work-related. Naturally, one side in a legal matter doesn't make the determination whether they have liability on a unilateral basis. That's all the insurance company is trying to do. Also, the fact that an entity has not insured their liability doesn't mean they don't have any. Just a few general comments as hopefully food for thought. |
