I have two and no cable. Works fine for me, get a digital antenna for the TVs to get local channels and such. No need for cable.

What about watching ur fav shows live? I'm not very good with computer stuff. So all this torrent, 8gb, 32gb stuff is Greek to me. I got a ps3, just got Xbox 360 for Xmas, an iMac, and an iPhone. How do I maximize my wanna be couch potato lifestyle?

Hack your Apple TV for free and get free everything. And by everything I mean any tv show. And movie. Any music. Takes about 1 hour if research and work.

Torrents are more so for movies or watching past seasons of a series to catch up. Services such as vudu offer some TV shows the next day after they air for about 2 dollars an episode.

I've got a WD Live box...same general idea as Apple TV and Roku. I mostly watch stuff from torrents and the WD Live supported the most video file types so I went with that one. So great not having to watch stuff on a computer monitor anymore |

Apple TV 3 cannot be jailbroken. This is probably the version you have. Apple TV 1 and 2 can be jailbroken. This is the one you need to run XBMC so you can watch free movies and tv shows or live sports.

Got it for Christmas as well. Love it. I like AirPlay especially. It's nice to easily throw pics or movies from my iPhone up on my screen. Also like being able to play movies from iTunes easily and in good quality. YouTube even looks better than when I play it from my blue ray player. It's only $100, well worth it i you have apple stuff. Found a VLC streamer app, hoping I can stream whatever I want with this.

AppleTV Hulu Plus $7.99/month subscription, limited content primarily from ABC, Comedy Central, CW, Fox, MTV, NBC, Nickelodeon, released the day after first run and typically available for a limited time (six weeks). Hulu Plus has advertising unlike the other services mentioned. iTunes $.99 -$4.99 movie rentals, $9.99 - $49.99/season television series, massive content library, released day after first run. Savvy users can find free episodes. Netflix $7.99/month subscription, large content library of popular television shows, released one year after first run. The greatest challenge with Netflix is discoverability. Podcasts FREE AppleTV has a Podcast app that offers hundreds of video podcasts for FREE. Much MORE CONTENT THAN ROKU although Crackle and a few other decent channels are not offered. Many of the podcast channels are offered as standalone channels on Roku. AppleTV does not offer dozens of worthless channels though. If all that isn't enough, newer Mac computers can AirPlay any content from their Mac to their AppleTV. Founders of older Mac computers, AirParrot offers AirPlay-like functionality.

Have it. Love it. iTunes makes purchases and rentals easy. Hulu is great. Netflix...awesome. Ok, I'm a fanboy. Big whoop. Wanna fight about it?
