Way too many fence grabs from Dos Santos. Way too many head butts by Cain.

the headbutts came after punch combinations. the head grinding during the clinch is fully legal ofcourse. it seemed like the fighters weren't even paying attention to Herb as the fight went on.

that's not the point. both fighters repeatedly broke the rules - they weren't one time slips. there comes a point when the fighters stop respecting the refs commands, which could potentitially ruin fights and lead to big controversies.

lack of head movement, having hands down, and having no legs for the last 20 minutes of the fight were the problem. it amazes me how little defense some of these guys have. just eating punches until you land your big shot isn't much of a martial art or boxing style. |

gusto -FinestScotch -quick - He should have taken a point for the fence grabs. Exactly. Going back to Tito-Rashad 1 where there was a point deducted without warning or with one warning... (forgive me if I am wrong) We just need consistency to help legitimize the sport in certain people's eyes. No, it wouldn't have made a difference in the outcome, we all know that. But, it is a rule for a reason and we have seen that it can change the outcome of a fight, therefore the rule needs to be enforced no matter the circumstance or impact on the fight.... |

gusto -An important factor though.FinestScotch -quick - He should have taken a point for the fence grabs. You follow the rules or you get a point taken away, when losing a point doesn't change anything and I highly doubt JDS would get DQ'd for fence grabbing. What reason does JDS have for following the no fence grabbing rule?

It makes sense that refs are afraid to deduct points in a fight of this magnitude. He should have stopped the fight, taken one of the fighters and clearly explain that if they break the rules again he'll deduct a point. perhaps that would have gotten the message across. that hematoma on jds forehead could have very well been from the headbutts.

Biggy - the headbutts came after punch combinations. the head grinding during the clinch is fully legal ofcourse. Nothing was going to stop JDS from grabbing the fence. That rule meant nothing to him in trying to keep standing. |

When they were against the cage it was head wrestling, totally legal. Cain leading with his head into every clinch should have been penalized. As it was clear and and continual headbutting. JDS should have been penalized for repeated fence grabbing. Herb appeared to just give up on enforcing the rules and let the two heavies go at it, NHB style...lol
