Reading this quote sent a shot of fire through me! Why? Well, when this quote from Steve Jobs was when he was asking John Sculley to leave as the current President of PepsiCo. It's what made John jump out of his comfort zone and when Jobs and Sculley teamed up they took Apple from a $800 million company to an $8 Billion dollar company! Isn't this desire really in every single one of us? I mean success aside... Don't you desire to leave your mark, to risk greatly for a great purpose, and to take a chance to really impact the world. Here is what I believe is the biggest, boldest, & best new years resolution you'll hear in 2013. However, I hope others are inspired to top it! I am releasing this publicly to The UG first because guys... I truly feel I have stumbled upon a type of new discovery or hybrid that I believe will make a huge difference in this world... I am all out committed, it's going to be a WILD ride! I want to add to that though saying YOU could/should/and would be a part of it, IF you want to. I am posting it here to get your thoughts and opinions, I need you guys thoughts to make this the best possible! 3 Major Focus Area's Support Tribe to help the Pygmy Tribe!
We will get a handprint and picture on the day each former slave came onto their own land where they are free for the first time. How do I know this will work? I was in the jungle when the first 60 or so Pygmy slaves were FREED & got moved onto their very first OWNED (purchased & given too) 30 acres of land. Not having (or being able to have!) land ownership is the main reason for their slavery. Now the land went from 30 to 60 acres and it's up from 60 to 120 PEOPLE freed in 2 months with very little support. In December they had their FIRST ever harvest of their own corn and beans they produced for themselves on their very own land! Give a man a fish and feed him for a day, TEACH a man TO fish... Feed him for a LIFETIME! This is my vision... This is my dream... And it's EXCITING to share it! I hope this starts a ripple effect of people getting inspired to hurl in their dreams and rocks of knowledge to cause their very own ripples of change! |

Having sympathy is no substitute for taking action. This has been RINGING in my ears ever since September 2nd, 2012 when I held Andibo the Pygmy boy, a 1 & 1/2 year old infant, bleeding from his ears and laying lifeless in my hands... Dead. Going to bed that night was almost impossible. I was confused, angry, & hurt. I was dumbfounded, infuriated, and broken hearted after hearing that he died from a PREVENTABLE disease, one pill would have cured him. I was in disbelief that Andibo, a innocent INFANT was denied a cheap, one pill, quick fix and instead suffered death. I now was given a living example, well dead example... of what the pygmies have told me over the last year, in over 10 different tribes, when they said their children were dying not just from disease... But from being neglected and REJECTED hospital treatment. I know had to believe what I previously thought was too unbelievable... Especially for doctors and nurses who were at least orginally motivated to help people right? I really wanted to help... but how? Laying awake I contemplated how to help. I knew I wanted myself, my buddy, and my translators who were now some of my best friends to be the ones digging Andibo's grave so the sick and starving Pygmy slaves could just worry about mourning Andibo's injustice. This was surely a nice gesture but it wasn't a way to help bring CHANGE. Tossing and turning I recalled that on that same one month journey I had 6 slavemasters approach me in 6 Pygmy tribes saying, "What are you doing here with my slaves? These are my Pygmies!" Sounds pretty racist doesn't it? Well it was worse in 3 other tribes where my translators & me were saddened and sickened right off the bat... These slavemasters firmly approached me and said, "What do you want with my Pygmies? These are my animals!" Good intentions are WORTHLESS without follow through. I wouldn't have believed what I am about to say unless it was physically told to me by Andibo's mother, a widow, who watched her 2 children and husband die of the same exact preventable disease. $1 dollar is the price of the pill, maybe another $3-$5 for the hospital visit. My translators, one being a nurses assistant of sorts said "If they price gouged these Pygmies like they would a Mzungu (white dude) it would have been a maximum $10-15." I paid $48 for Andibo's casket and a shovel. Then Mamma Betty (Andibo's mother's nickname) told me the first time she took Andibo to the hospital they were greeted at the door by hospital staff saying "You are to dirty to come in, stand there (outside) and tell us what you want." She was then asked if they had money, and she said "you know I don't get paid in money" and then they said "No money, no treatment." Mamma Betty then told me the chief went and negotiated, and they came back with what added up to being MORE than what the hospital thought would be impossible for a sick Pygmy widowed slave to come up with... She was stopped outside the hospital once again and with her dying infant Andibo in her hands she was verbally told, "We won't waste medicine on a pygmy animal." This is just one story of the many horrific stories from there... Mamma Betty will be one of the first people I bring onto the new land when I get there this year! |

BTW Justin, come on Carson's Corner sometime! I think everyone can appreciate that you're trying to do good here and the fact is, pygmys are a curosity factor which a lot of people have forgotten about. Remember when that would be the answer to a Trivial Pursuit question or something? Sounds pretty interesting. |

It's not all bad though. From a biological standpoint, short people have better lives. I'm not sure how short your Pygmy slaves are, but if they adapt a suitable immune system in their future generations, they will surely outlive us all. However, I'll support your cause Justin. Only because you've put so much effort into a notion that will most assuredly put the local shovel manufacturer out of business. It's the snowball effect. We save the slaves, the slave masters are then forced to find the labour elsewhere, which may not be possible given the geographical surroundings. The farms will shut down, the shovel factory will cease production and the wood workers will no longer need to build caskets, which in turn pay to support their families. What we are now doing could very well destroy the entire ecology and economy of the Pygmy people we are now desperately trying to save. And I'm down, I'm so down.

How does the $50 free the slave. Do you buy them from the owner? I don't get it. I don't doubt that you are legit, having followed this story for a while now I know your not a con artist. Just curious how it works.

One of the women I am going to free! I can't wait to tell her she will NEVER have to do this again!!! This is a bag of CHARCOAL!!! Guys this was over 100 pounds, it was heavy for me to pick up, it poked through the bags and onto my forearm... This woman had her slavemaster tie this around her head and put this on her back! She walked... No joke... 4-5 km's through the JUNGLE! Over tree's, on muddy trails... and FELL multiple times. Guys I woulda had a hard time walking 1-2 km's with that tied around my head! You gotta remember Pygmy height! They are on average 4 foot 6 for the men! This is a pygmy WOMAN! I asked my translator what her payment was... He told me she said that she wasn't getting any... Her "master" prepaid her and wasn't going to give her anything! Guess what she was prepaid with... She had been STARVING the day before... So she asked for some food... and this is what this slavemaster (who calls her an animal) gave her for food for that HEAVY and harder labor than I have ever done! GOAT HIDE!!! She ate goat skin, and goat hair... A thing of hide that we'd put on the carpet... Well with a cow, not a goat! |

Carson's Corner radio show -Forgotten... Funny you say that. People call them the forest people... But the call themselves "the forgotten people." Thought of naming whatever this turns into "The fight for the forgotten." Let me know what ya think about that... Didn't know if it would stick.
