And you will hear people say, like some of the above posters, that they get taxed @ 30%, but like most middle income tax payers, they get the majority of their taxes back, minus FICA taxes at end of year. The majority of tax income to the Unites States treasury comes via the 2%.

They get "the majority" of that 30% back eh, can you source that please?

 

The top 2% find ways to shelter MUCH more of their earnings, and while you keep calling hthem the "2%" to try and make them seem tiny, they make up a HUGE % of the wealth. Shouldn't the people making ~50% of the wealth thus be paying ~50% of the taxes?

The mortgage deduction is a tax expenditure. It's one of those massive handouts that we Canadians don't get to enjoy.

Sure if you want to live in a country wear the results of a man's labor and intelligence belong to the state as much as to the man....the rest of us prefer freedom.

I chose a bad terminology. 50% of the INCOME for a fiscal year should pay 50% of the taxes, no?

Or do you feel that as your income increases more and more individually that you should pay less and less as a %?

Totally agree.  The wealthiest 2% should pay 2% of the taxes.  This would be a great incentive for the middle class to work harder to become the top 2%.

What? No one is asking them to pay MORE (% wise) than the middle class. I am saying that IF they account for 50% of the income annually, they should pay 50% of the taxes annually. As in, ALL people should pay the same tax rate.

So tell me, what is your opinion of ALL people paying the same tax rate. That is what I believe it should be, regardless of income. NO deductions, no IRS at all, just a flat %.

IF some people get to use a tax deduction and others don't, handout is probably a fair term.

He is stupid and frequently dishonest, but he makes a valid point here. The one coming across as stupid is you.

He's making a very good point. None of this money is the government's in the first place. They take it from people like you and I. Dangling it back in front of your face with credits, tax incentives, etc. Eh, I just don't have the energy to debate about this shit. Good day to you guys.
